Making a prim glow with particle system?

I am trying to make a halo. I've started by making a "torus" prim, setting the material to light. I've got it physically the proper shape now, but I would like it to have a glow to it, as if lit from within.

Is this doable using the particle system? I've tried adapting a bling script to do what I want, but I've had no success at all.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

With particles? No. Not the way you want it, at least. If you're just wanting a steady light emission rather than a pulsating glow, just check Full Bright and set the material to Light. It won't work for people that don't have Local Lighting enabled, and a nimbus is pretty much out of the question, but it's the best you'll get without heavy scripting, as far as I know.

I have a few other ideas, but most are a bit sim-intensive.

If you hunt in designs and textures I think it is, there was a discussion about making a fluorescent tube glow. It involved similar co-centric cylinders (or torii for you) that were various stages of transparent and noise and set to fullbright... it worked quite well and no scripting at all!.

I made a rather nice halo using an _EXPLODE particle coming out from the center... Gives it a radiant effect, which looks rather nice, even though the "glow" is coming from the middle of the torus and not the torus itself. I like the look of it.

I've also made a halo, but I made it cover the torus in glowing particles. I won't provide a script since I sell them, but i can give you the idea and let you figure it out ;)

It takes two prims. One is the halo, the other is an invisible prim in the middle. You put the particle script in the middle prim and set the particle radius to the radius of the torus so that particles are generated starting away from the center. I think it's cone as well, not explode.

Good luck!

I have a halo in my inventory I scribbled together which you should be able to modify to suit your purposes. It's just a transparent torus with a particle system script embedded in it that's been set up to make the particles actually appear evenly inside the torus (not in the empty space in the center).

Contact me in-game however you want and I'll give ya a copy to modify as you see fit.
You should be able to customize the thing to get it to do more or less anything you like. I have the number of particles it uses turned down really low (10 particles at max I think) at the moment to avoid it degrading poorly in high-particle areas, so it looks a bit like sparkling. Dropping the transparency even further on the torus and increasing the number of particles (as well as decreasing their lifetime and making them insensitive to wind/movement) should get you a "made of light" effect of a sort.
