Hi, and welcome to Second Life ^_^

There are many stores in SL that focus specifically on selling scripts, although they can get pretty expensive. If you look hard enough, however, you'll undoubtebly find some free scripts that you can use. I also recommend taking a look at the Second Life Wiki (http://wiki.secondlife.com).

I am also currently on a free account, and to be honest, it doesn't really affect anything unless you want to own virtual land.

Hi Cherry. Welcome.
First thing is read the sticky on this forum. Then pick up scripts from various places in world and websites. One I like is Free Scripts Library: http://freescriptlibrarysl.co.uk/LSL-Scripts-S.php

You're probably looking for animations, not scripts. You can buy them many places in world or in the Products forum. This is a forum for learning how to write your own scripts in LSL.

With a "free" account -- I assume you mean one that has no associated payment information -- you have no way to bring money into SL. Unless you have a way to earn L$ in world, that will limit how easily you can pay residents for goods or services. Otherwise, you won't have any major limitations unlss you want to own property.

I suggest that you spend some time reading in the SL Knowledge base at [img]https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417[\img].

Oh, and you'll find that many residents will get their back up if you say that you "play" SL. It's not a game. /me ducks quickly to avoid the gamers ;)

Welcome Cherry!

Dancing and so on is done by animations, in most clubs and so on there are big dance balls you touch to start and stop dancing. (There is a wearable type called a chimera, but the dances to put inside them won't be free.) There are also poseballs you "sit" on for partner dances. So you don't really need to buy any dances, unless you want to be a performer.

To change the way you walk/sit/stand you need an animation overrider (AO), I will drop you a free one in world and when you have been in SL a while you can look for an AO that suits you better.

Premium accounts can own land on the mainland (pay monthly land fees to Linden Labs), but land can also be rented from other SL residents so it's not necessary. You might not even want land, lots of people don't.

Premium members have some kind of tech support that basic members don't have, live chat.

Basic accounts can do everything else that premium accounts can do.

The payment information allows you to buy in world money, that is needed whether you are basic or premium, but you can get along quite well without money if you put your mind to freebie hunting!

That's about it, I downgraded from premium to basic about a year ago and haven't missed it. Everything else your basic/premium status doesn't matter.

You can also visit:

http://www.xstreetsl.com/

This is a marketplace that many vendors within SL sell their products at. You can search for scripts, animations, whatever your heart desires, and then sort it by price. Go for low to high. You'll find a lot of freebies and cheapies here too.

Welcome aboard!! :)

And right next door (well, maybe down the street a bit and on the left actually) on these forums is "Products Wanted", which is a good place to ask around for specific pre-built things you are looking to purchase or whatever.

And if you are interested in learning, look upstairs at Animation Tips. The people there can show you the different free programs for creating your own dances and then teach you how to use them.

So I will ditto everyone's comments from above. There are no limitations for using a free account.

Hey, Cherry, welcome to Sl from another Cherry :)

You've had some really good replies here. For dancing and stuff, you don't actually *learn* how to do it. You just click a ball like Malia says. You can also get invisible attachments (think belt or bracelet) that you wear, which will make your avatar dance. I have quite few free ones, so IM me if I seem to be in-world. Or look up "freebie" in Search, and teleport to them all until you find a decent freebie shop - there are plenty :)

It's a nice Second Life, really. You can get everything you need for nothing if you look around a bit. Only get caught up in the commerce aspect of it if you're siezed by the creation bug!!

Cheers,
Cherry
