Hello,
I simply want to upload some photos I took in SL, to SL.
I originally saved them to Hard Disk.
I want to put them in my Inventory's Photo Album.
I've looked all over for information about the size limit of uploaded images and all I can derive from my search is that the images seem to have to have a size limit of 512 by 1024.
Is that correct? I never really found any documentation about image size limit and that's why I'm asking about it here.
I uploaded one image that was rather large and it got scrunched down to 512x1024, and the imagery itself is, of course, squished.
Also, is there a megabyte size limit as well as a pixel size limit?
Thanks for your help with this issue, if you can!

image size limit

Hi Metro,
The max size for any texture upload in SL is 1024x1024. If you upload any image that is larger than those dimensions, SL will compress it down to dimensions that fit within the 1024x1024 limit.
i.e. - if you uplaod a texture that is 2048x1024, the uploaded result will be 1024x512.
Once uploaded, your imagery may look squished in the preview window because textures tend to look fangled until you apply the texture to a prim and resize it to the dimensions in which it's meant to be seen. - if that makes any sense. You can also find the uploaded texture in your inventory and double-click on it, which will pop open the image in the proper dimensions.
Pixel size will get compressed as well to the default lossless of the upload, I'm not sure what that is, and the compression mentioned above answers the mb. limit question as well, SL will compress your image size to the default 1024 ratio if it's any bigger.
Hope that helps a bit, ~Chipley

From: Metro Andel Is that correct? I never really found any documentation about image size limit and that's why I'm asking about it here. This should answer all your questions on size, this is a sticky at the top of the Texturing Tips forum. /109/e6/150360/1.html

Say, that is a nice sticky, and I didn't know that a jpeg's image quality degrades every time it's saved.
Good ol' Chosen for the documentation win!

Hey Chipley, Larrie...thanks for your help!
Yes, that sticky is uber-informative. I haven't even waded through all of it yet, but I'm keen to get to it because all I'm trying to do is upload SL snapshots to my photo album to share in the world.
I'll figure it out now!
