Well the one on the left is obviously Gaia the Earth Mother. The one on the right though... hrmmm sort of looks like an anguished soul trapped in the tree of binding for all enternity.

Where are these trees at so I can make my pilgrimage there and begin weeping estatically and praying to the trees for miracles? ;P

(Races there, assumes that the faces are Lindens, and begs for "temporary" use of llGodLikeRezObject)

Oh shit.

One of those must be mine. I made this horrendous social gaffe the other day – a long story, involving a ghosted torus, a Linden, and two panda Tinies in bikinis at the top of the Parrot Island waterfall– and was told by a Japanese friend that I'd lost face.

I didn't realize she meant it literally. :(

Quite right. Perhaps there will be scale model Miracle Trees for sale? I must have one.

Snide yet helpful? An avatar after my own heart!

Although, sure, maybe I'm incorrectly inferring the snide part ...

Adrienne,

Under the assumption that you would genuinely like it explained in simple terms:-

If a word is a plural (describing many instead of one thing) it will *never* have an apostrophe (ie, cats, dogs, doritos, 1980s).

If you are using a word that stands for the word +'is' (ie, the cat's feeding, the moon's blue, it's Friday), it *always* has an apostrophe. The apostrophe stands for the missing letter.

If it's a pronoun and a possessive it *never* has an apostrophe (ie, his house, the cat eats its dinner). An easy way of remembering this is that we never say hi's house.

If it's a possessive (and not a pronoun) it has an apostrophe (ie, Fred's house, the cat's dinner).

That's it. Four simple rules. I think this could be taught to primary school children in about half an hour. I think it says something about the way we teach children that so many people find apostrophes difficult.

Anyway, hope you didn't find this patronising, because it certainly wasn't meant to be. Hopefully it will be of general interest. I find, as a fast reader, when I see the word "tree's" I automatically expect the next word to tell me what the tree *is* or *has*, and this can make me stumble and have to backtrack.

So as not to derail the thread entirely, I would say that the human brain is programmed to recognise faces as a prime function. This helps with communication, because we can instantly gauge the mood of a person even when we can't see them clearly. But it does lead us to see faces in ordinary patterns. Hence the faces people see in clouds or flames, and also those on Mars. There are times when we can't in fact trust our own eyes, and the photographs of the 'face on Mars' that were taken from a slightly different angle, prove that to us in a disquieting way.

Since when did the SL forums turn into Grammar School? We were discussing pictures not grammar. Hence the forum being thus accurately named "Gallery".

Yes, exactly. perhaps I'm wrong, but I think that's why grammar is being mentioned here at all... not to try to sound snarky or superior, but because seeing an error can be distracting. It takes your attention away from the photo, which is where it should be.

Cool picture, by the way. Now I'm going to have to go stare at trees to see if I can see more faces.
