Hi, I'm Erin! Myself and a group of others are interested in promoting real art in SL - be it paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, digital imaging, prim sculpture, you name it - so long as it didn't come from Google! I'm currently looking for new players or people who don't have their own gallery space, who are interested in showing their works. We have a very nice space at the moment for just that purpose If you're short of somewhere to show your stuff, just interested in discussing with us how we can help promote original art in SL, or if you're new and don't know how to go about bringing your real art into the game, contact me either through the forums or (even better) gimme (Erin Talamasca) a PM in game and I'll be happy to chat. And you old-timers, if you happen across any new folk who you think might be interested, point 'em in my direction! Thanks Erin

Always great to see additional art showing options in SL!
If you have a poster. landmark and/or notecard for your area, we would be happy to display it at The Riverwalk. We have quite a few artists showing thre and we get quite a few new players. I am sure they would be interested in additional venues for their peices.
Catch me in-world or drop a poster/landmark/notecard on my profile. Glad to get the word out for you.

Great Idea
11-10-2005 15:58
That's a great idea.
Would you consider a lending arrangement similar to many RL museums? Each participating museum would borrow and lend art for display in other locations.
I have a large gallery of digitally modified SL photography. I also have a guest gallery for students and friends to post their work.
It would be cool to have a rotating gallery of materials on loan from the SL museum of Art.

Hello! Wonderful - I'll get in touch and give ya details.
I have my own gallery which has a room I'm wanting to rent out to give a bit of variety - the other site I'm managing is really looking for folks who need a break (well mine is too but my main push is for Cafe de Artiste!) So that's what this thread was about. The Cafe was set up to support new members or those with nowhere else to display. I'd also like to get talking to new folk who don't know how to upload images, set perms, that sort of thing. So yes, if you could get the word out to folk you think might be interested, that's fab :)
Aside from (but related to) that, the gallery rotation idea is a great one. I've already collected a few names of people interested in starting up a group to discuss various things (for eg the purpose of art in SL and how that differs from RL and can be catered to - collaborative projects, interactive environments, events and so forth) - getting gallery owners interested was one of the ideas I thought to bring up, some sort of share and promote deal. So it's great that others are interested in the same thing!
Anyway, I'll get hold of you guys in game and we'll trade landmarks, but not tonight, it's silly o'clock AGAIN and the sensible grown-up in me has been reminding me for the past hour that I should be in bed...

HellO! I'm a painter and an illustrator with a couple images of my work in SL. I am very excited to see this kind of support for original artwork. Thanks for such a wonderful idea, Erin.
I'm sure i'll be in touch....

Hi Jamus, I'll try to give you a prod this evening and we'll talk. Since you've got your own gallery I'm not sure you qualify for 'needing a break' ( ) but if you're interested in trading exhibitions with my place that'd be worth a chat Moss, I'll try and get hold of you too. That'll be the third Talamasca Funny that, we must be a creative bunch or something. I'm properly opening my gallery (probably) on Friday and you're all welcome to come to that. No invitations as yet probably because I'm a bit rubbish. But once that's out of the way I'll be less confused and be able to think a bit more about getting this group running and organising exhibitions and events and all that malarky. But if anyone wants more info on the Cafe then gimme a poke whenever.

Erin,
I'm glad to see this is getting off the ground!
When's your Grand opening? I would love to be there for you...
As for Art sharing, I am all for it... If anyone thinks that any of my stuff belongs in your gallery or Museum, perhaps we can work out a donation, space exchange or some other arrangement.
I don't qualify for Erin's "Leg up" that she is offering, but as a gallery owner, I wholeheartedly support it. I think promotion of aesthetic challenges and ideals is an important part of life that is missing in part from SL. We need more Aesthetes to balance out all the "Performance Art" that's been going around lately..

Lo Dude! Fully agree with you on that one. I think the 'performance' art has its place, certainly (since we're in a game that's all about interactivity and experience) but it'll be great to push the other sides a bit more. Opening probably Friday but I'll get some notecards out before the weekend if I stop finding things that need changing (yeah, as if that'll EVER happen!)

since this is a thread about original art, i thought it might be apropriate to post about this: we have a art excersise in the forums, we post a screenshot and people draw their interpretations of it heres the most recent one we've done

Eeeeh I don't know a single other game that keeps you *busy* all the time and yet still manages to be addictive... as if I don't spend enough time being busy elsewhere! Nylon, I took a look at some of those threads, I think they're a great idea! Some really imaginative responses I'll have to watch out for the next comp. Don't know if I'd dare enter but it was really fun looking at the other entries. Opening my place on Friday - not that it isn't kinda open already, but, ya know. Sorry if I threw a notecard at you *sheepish grin*. Come play! Anyway, the Cafe De Artist still has its doors wide open for new and/or struggling artists Catch me in game for a tour, or find it yourself whenever suits - it's currently full of my stuff (nothing worse than an empty store...) but I'll clear it up to free walls for other artists. We also have free-standing displays if required. Send me a message either here in in SL if you're interested, or know somebody who might be Chaaaaaaaaaaars. Take it easy.

I would be interested... my very first creation in SL is an interactive thingamajig I call Morphing Sculpture that changes into a new shape when you touch it. Well I think it's fun to play with anyway I'm not very good at munging prims around into interesting shapes so I learned LSL, wrote a script to do it for me, and this is the result. Let me know how to get in touch with you and I'll be glad to give you (or anyone!) a demo at my new house (yay!) or you can swing by the excellent Open Air Art Gallery or the Red Dragon club to see it on display and poke it a few times. I'd be very interested to hear what you think. As long as it's good. -Sasun

I'd like to thank everyone who came to the gallery opening last night for making it utterly awesome I had a great time, thank you. Unfortuantely the party did start with a bit of a bang - I'd just like to request that anyone who was there for the griefing incident reports it. If you didn't catch the name of the guy who did it, PM me and I'll pass it on. I turned round and saw him just as he was setting the bomb off, and my boyfriend was sitting down so didn't get blasted and saw it all, so we're pretty certain who it was. It was totally deliberate and mean-spirited - neither of us knew the guy so he obviously just came along to cause trouble - so if you were there at the time, please do report abuse about it. With luck he'll get a severe kick up the bum. Anyway, thanks once again. The rest of the night was wonderful and I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as me.
