I've been working on a script to create spheres using cube prims, my latest result was a 256m diameter sphere in the sim Sandbox Island. Here for your amusement is a snapshot of the world map...

did you clear that before you left? don't get me wrong, it's neat-looking. but it would kind of eff up the sanbox for other people.

In order for it to appear on the world map I needed to leave it until clearing time, it was sufficiently high enough that it shouldn't slow anyone down unless they'd left their view distance too high (>256m). Other than that it's no more laggy than any other 3362 prims, and cubes with topsize at that (as opposed to torii). If anyone did experience any problems in the sim during the time it was up I appologise on the offchance it was to do with my sphere, it certainly shouldn't have any effect on sim fps or time dilation.

i have seen lots of giant spheres, what impresses me most is the rainbow gradeint across it, now that is cool - im assuming the script does that too?

Yes indeed Barnesworth, the gradient is a function of the angle horizontally and vertically so the colours twist as you travel down the sphere. The colour vector is calculated at the time the prim position and rotation are.

Looks like something someone made out of XYObject. Neat though.

I saw that on the map but was so busy with clients that I didn't get to go see what in the world it was!

I figured it was just map art. Not saying map art isn't coolieo, but being 3D as well adds a whole bunch of kudo points, I am sorry to have missed seeing it in person.

soooo THAT was what was wrong with the sandbox island that day. Dude how many prims was that exactly???? LOL

and yeah we were kinda ticked off on the ground about it, but still congrats on your mega-achievement, it does look pretty for sure. Next time let's determine a certain time and place so that other people are not inconvenienced -- perhaps a cool event where we gather several programmers like you, and have each one them showcase an effect like this in the sandbox ....

Oi! I saw that on the map the other night. I imagined some particle explosion happened or something. Anyways, it looked very nice on the map. Though the image wasn't consistently seen. But I do love the purty colours.
