These are some pictures I took from my first day in Second Life. What a day it was! First I got into pot, then commited sepuki(?) where I met with a savior! Oh what great people are there, that's why I'm hesitant to travel to the mainland. That and I want all the free lootz I can nab from the n00bies area

Never fear - when you are ready to head out to he mainland there's TONS of new resident friendly spots for you there too - including tons of freebies and fun and crazy avatars to hang out with The Shelter - nightclub geared to new comers - great supportive people and scads of freebies  Yadni's Junkyard - Newbie Paradise! 1L items and freebies galore! The New Citizens Inc. - a sandbox area, classes, freebies, SL Basics Info, 1L store and group to join for addition support if you need it. The Learning Center - sandboxes, classes, new resident info and support again welcome! _____________________

Wow - it's great to see SL detailed from a new player's POV, because these are the things that we (and you in a week or two) forget all together. How bonkers it was. Things like that'll be commonplace to you really soon and you'll be glad you made a record - same reason I'm glad I never deleted my first builds (though I don't get them out in public!).
For me, I wasn't convinced by the graphics. The camera controls drove me mad. But then my boyfriend let me use his computer for two hours whilst I painstakingly built an enormous cow, and ten minutes after that I was wearing it on my head dancing in a club. Having seen (some) people's attitudes to new folk since then I'm glad nobody batted an eyelid, but I was utterly sold. The boy commented: "I was wondering how I was ever going to get you into this game. If I'd realised, I'd have said "You can wear an enormous cow on your head and go out dancing", and you'd never have hesitated". How true. |

Welcome, Jolan! Brace's suggestions are very good!
Another place to go RIGHT AWAY is the sim TECHRA as that huge tree is going away. Also - the Ivory Tower of Primitives in Noyo has complete building tutorials. Numbakulla is fabulous - that's another sim. Don't forget Navora! The city sims - Grignano, Sistiana, Miramare, and Barcola - are favorites of mine. _____________________

Jolan, glad to see you're having fun on Help Island! You'll meet some pretty cool people there who will help get your feet wet with SL.
Also, you may be interested in Snapzilla. It's like a giant photoblog just for Second Life. You can find it at www.slpics.com. You can email your snapshots directly to the site and have them show up for everyone to see. All the directions are on the site. _____________________
