This is how the Welcome Area looks again and again as the cache system does not seem to work worth beans.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville This is how the Welcome Area looks again and again as the cache system does not seem to work worth beans. Have to say I'm with you here, I can't figure why these new default textures were needed ? Ages ago I sent a bug report about the way the cache apparently does nothing other than slow down the client as the cache gets bigger, strange behaviour for a cache I thought. Move from one place to another, go back to the original location and the textures all download again. You can confirm this by watching the texture console. There's certainly something awry with it I think.

Danger - Default texture rain is falling.

Danger - Default texture rain is falling. The sharp corners of the gray rectangles can pierce avatar flesh and leave the gaping void inside exposed to the elements, so be sure to wear a safety box on your head when inclement weather threatens.

I agree. The default textures have "ugly-ized" the world for me beyond what it ever was before. And because the cache is essentially worthless, my own home, hell, the particles that emit from my own avatar have to reload every 2-3 minutes.
If anything, this new default texture has shown how much improvement needs to be made with the cache.

A delightfullly gray shot. Sorry for the repetitive nature of these posts, but their repetitiveness pales in comparison to the repetitiveness with which I see these lovely gray rectangles.

I dunno.. I kinda like the new default texture. Makes it OBVIOUS what's loading, because you can see the shape. I'd rather not go back to the old texture, but maybe some sort of compromise could be made between the new and the old?
(Before textures load, it reminds me of the VR missions in the metal gear solid games. Whee!)

Anyone considering taking time to prepare well written material for the wiki at wiki.secondlife.com might want to consider the care and attention people's uploaded images received in the gallery forum here.
Or the fate of the old support wiki at secondlife.com/tiki .
Or the fate of the scripting tips forum.
I was looking for pictures of gray loading textures and found this thread where my pictorial contribution to the history of Second Life used to be.
It's sad that our pictures mean so little to LL.
