This Week's Contest - The Worst Design EVER!!

Normally, I like to accentuate the positive, but this is so negative that it's good for a laugh. Backstory: I thought I'd try to learn to design clothing. First step: figure out how to make a blank shirt some other color than white. Rather than upload a texture, I figured I'd grab a random freebie texture from my inventory and stick it on there. After all, all I really wanted was to see what happened and play with it, then I'd start making normal textures, pay for the upload, etc... The freebie texture I grabbed was for a stained glass window. Hilarity ensued. I now have what is quite possibly either the ugliest or the most beautiful shirt ever created in the history of SL. The only way to tell which it is would be to drop acid and take a look at it then. Maybe under black light.

This week's contest: Design something so hideous that it cannot be worn in public, and then wear it somewhere public. Post a picture of yourself (your av, not your actual self). It can't be just a little weird or unfashionable. It has to be truly Godawful. Your prize: 3L and Trout's Technicolor Shirt of the Great Poofy Sleeves. Shirt will be transferred with all permissions and rights so you may inflict it on others. If I ever manage to make something presentable, I'll give you one of those as well. At some point during this contest, I'll post a photo of me in the shirt so you can see how bad it really is (although a beautiful man like myself can almost make it look good. /me winks and raises an eyebrow "How you doin'?".

For the sake of keeping Strife sane, let's keep this to one thread. I don't want to mess up the forums. Also, even thogh the shirt may be broadly offensive on general principles, let's keep it no worse than an R rating). Contest ends Wednesday. Or Thursday.

you can also come up with some pretty goofy looking stuff when you upload a texture that you're certain will dazzle the masses, when in fact it ends up looking like something from the trash can.

Wednesday - Let's make it in the evening - say 8:00 PST. I'll give fair warning before I shut it down, and if it needs it, I'm ok with an extension of time. It's just for fun.

Yeah - After the stained glass fiasco, I went through several other freebie textures that I had picked up here and there. Last I left I was wearing some sort of orange tribal berber rug. Oh - and the pants. God, I hope I saved the library book pants. It's a well know fact that I have no shame, so if anyone is interested in seeing this stuff, PM me and I'll be glad to model it for you in person.

oooh, i got this texture which is a scan of an ugly little doily, with alpha background, that I once chose to wear as a top and skirt...it's...still PG. I think. But it looks like some alien life forms stuck on me body....

Can I get the shirt and a pair of pants with that design? I'd like mod, so I can make shorts, and half shirts and all, but really, if nothing else pants and shirt, tight fit! That is a perfect pixie outfit!

Kokoro - I'll send you a copy of the shirt - I don't know where the pants came from, probabll freebies, but if they are transfer, I'll get you a copy of those as well. On a side note, I don't think I've bought a pair of pants in SL yet. Decent men's pants that aren't identical to all other pants out there are tough to find. There's variations of cargo pants and variations of jeans. The end.

Currently Mimi is in the lead with whatever that is, but Alyx's laundry room throw rug design is pretty close.

I can do that. Actually, If it's set to transfer, I'll give you the texture and you can have a field day. If you wear the shirt and pants together, make sure nobody around you is prone to seizures.

Geesh - I get my start in SL designing clothes for fairies. If the guys in my poker game hear about this, I'm as good as dead.

i do have to say one thing ...

except for the very top edge of the collar, (easily fixed),
the pattern, the artwork and detailing, line-connections and seams
of your shirt, looks way far better than some of the things ive bought
for 500-1000L$, from presumably some of the so-called best designers of SL,
who often turn out incredibly sloppy work in spite of their reputations & hautiness ...


you did a great job ...
and though i agree with you that it is one-of-a- kind ...
however, sad to say ...
imo it does not in any way qualify as The Worst Design EVER!!

That's very kind Arsenic. I'm really bound and determined to make something of worth in SL at some point. I spend most of my time cursing Gimp instead. I'm damned if I can make it work, and I swear I'm not an idiot - I just feel like one. It's the most frustrating program I've ever worked with. At any rate, thanks for the encouragement.

As for the contest, I'm calling it over and giving the win to Mimi. 3L will be transfered as soon as I get on tonight. Mimi gets a copy of both shirts as well, and Kokoro actually seems to want them, so she gets them too. - have fun with them, and Kokoro, when you do whatever you end up doing with them, send me an IM. I'd love to see what someone who knows what she is doing can make of them.

Classy - dang. I'm in for it now. If those guys didn't bleed money to me every time we played, I wouldn't have the guts to show my face.
