Are they particle plants ?

Last year I had a weird bug where at certain times of day the sun would overload the lighting calculations for the parcel and all the particles would turn bright red ...

The culprits were the lit packets in the hong-bo money tree. Just that amount of light was enough to overflow the lighting calculations.

LL fixed it fairly fast but maybe your redness is something similar...

yes similar, i have a barn right in the vicinity and a large rust red dumpster just over. but they are Linden Undergrowth. as I found with testing Local Lighting on and off, and ass soon as the placts are touched the effect goes away as well.

would be cool to have turning leaves in SL though all the same...now it's got me tinkering with my UI to see what I can come up with :D .
