hi ppl,

i have only recently joined SL and the building side of it facinates me. ive just bought a plot of land and built my first house, i have attatched some snap shots, i would appreciate it if any one could give advice on how to improve the look of it, in ways of making the edges look sharper where needed and to curve edges where needed. i have also had problems when putting walls together i get a faint dotted line in the joins which i cant remove:(,
also any ideas on how to reduce my prim count? got bloody prims comin out of my ears, yet all the proffessional looking builds ive seen dont use a fraction of the prims i have used!!! please some one enlighten me:)

ooo sorry that seemed more like a moan than a plee for help lol.

pls IM Elliot2502 Voom with some advice or post here, thanks :)

thankyou:)

It's breathtaking!

I have no advice on prims being just a newb myself ^_^ I love the building classes though, and have also been having fun working on my first place -- for now I've simply patched together a modification of Lordfly Digeridoo's Patio House for the exterior. Did most of the interior work & furnishings but I eventually hope to make my own exterior from scratch, too.

If mine turns out half as well as yours did, I will be thrilled!

What is the total prim count on the structure itself?

Alot of building is trial and error as far as getting prim counts down.. and learning to make textures to give the illusion of something. the dotted line can be dealt with by coloring the edge as same as the wall.. however this only works if the wall color is the same on both sides.. another option would be, and I just thought of this so I don't know how good it would work, but in my mind it looks fabulous lol :P is to make the edge invisable.. I'm gonna have to try that and see if it actually looks better or worse lol..
Anyways, very nice build :)

Ciao!

It looks good. I think you should trust your own instincts. Take a break from it, come back to it, stare at it from different angles. If something about it doesn't please then keep experimenting.

My only suggestion is that the gazebo with the ornate frame on the top level doesn't fit the the style of the rest of the building. They fight each other. Remove it and the clean circular lines of the building will stand on their own design strength.

you have done a splendid job. i do have a couple of comments to offer, though.

Why do so many people flatten the land and put down grass? Maybe a little terrain variation to go with the novel house.

Even more trivial, the little bridge over the stream/path thing is a little two circular for my taste. I would flatten it out a bit.
