This is my latest venture into playing with sampled textures. This particular skin texture comes directly from the second image below. It's a snapshot of the top tube on my carbon composite mountain bike. The final skin texture has obviously gone through a lot of post production, but I more or less tried to convey and enhance the same surface quality on the avatar skin as I was able to capture in the original photograph. My biggest challenge was maintaining a consistent level of detail over most of the wrapped texture surface. The size of the texture had to be carefully chosen for a 2048x2048 master file, then reduced to 512x512 without much loss in detail. For that reason, I ended up blurring some detail off the ankles and sides of the neck in the master file in order to properly blend the seems in the texture wraps.

Well done! Gotta love the shine effect on the final post-processed image.

A more metallic version

This version pops out more of the details, especially on the face. The difference is an extra reflective layer "linear" & "color" dodged into the master files. .
