Where is this building? I'd like to see it for myself.

I think its very nicely done, much better then what I can do anyways X3 If your neighbour has a problem with it he should be able to sell his land and move elsewhere, There is always diffirent options on how to respond to diffirent situations, hehe

From: someone Recently, a neighbor of mine complained that my building was so ugly he had to cover his area with trees. How rude! What was s/he thinking? That you'd say "You really think so? Thank you for alerting me. How would you prefer my build look like?" If s/he gives you any more crap about your so-called ugly build (or doesn't pull back the trees), you can always raise it say 15 meters high, above the tree line...

Anyway, please tell me what you think. It took me a long time to build it and I would hate for it to be in vain. If you all don't like it then I will be happy to modify it with any suggestions.
It's not exactly an architectural masterpiece, but it's a long way from ugly.

satai are you having fun building and playing sl? that is the only important question. everyone has different tastes, and everyone has different abilities. anyone who wants to exert control over their neighbours buildings should move to the dozen or so zoned sims that have popped up.
if it is a concern for you to compromise with your neighbours, i can suggest trying to use more prims, but that is just my personal opinion and taste. i find that relying too much on textures to conserve prims can lead to buildings that i find monolithic and imposing. adding prims for alternating mullions or every third mullion, or framing your posters with prims can add a level of detail. try playing around with the texture options to line up the lines for the mullions.
i like the satelitte dish detail. it's primmy details like that that give life to sl building for me.

as stated above, who care what other thinks if YOU have fun doing whatever you want to build , i see some craaazy builds out there, i think neg rating for build is just wrong, No one thinks alike, diversity what i love with SL and omg the crazyness around! I could say i seen better builds, worse builds, what i say shouldnt matter , nor should others. i love the dish touch, for some reason i never see those anywhere

Gee, Satai
I think this thread is the smartest bit of self advertising I've seen so far in SL. Not being nasty, it really was neatly and inoffensively done. Right down to multiple images of your building, with adverts.
You am one smart cookie. My hat is off, anyway.
Edit: Yes, on an absolute scale its pretty ugly. But in relation to what else is here, its about as bad as average. No cause for complaint unless your surroundings are unusually aesthetic.

I think there is alot of potential with the design, just keep playing with it till you are happy. One thing is that it seems kinda too box like. Maybe add a few prims to flush it out and make it seem like more of a building. Sometimes a simple border along the floor can do that.

not that horrible, but perhaps you could make the windows on the outside tinted and very shiny so you cant see in/reflects the sky, along with removing the giant advertisment signs on top and if possible, on the sides of the building.

Buildings can be scripted to appear and disappear, or made to be invisible at will

Buildings can be scripted to appear and disappear, or made to be invisible at will.
I wonder at times why people don't use this ability more. One could just make a script that would allow the neighbor to make the building or a portion thereof to vanish if they are in their adjoining lot while the building lot is empty. If you are there, or the neigbor that objects is not around, the building would appear as normal.
When what you want in the neighbor's lot is nothing, it may not really matter what what they have up looks like, what you really want is a bigger lot or maybe a neighbor that enjoys life in the unspoiled digital wilderness.
If you haven't tried asking the neighbor exactly what they object to, and asking them to give you some sketches or other pictures of what they think would be a good design for that setting, you could try.
Possibly more windows, enough to let the view show through from one side to the other, or maybe some open spaces at ground level to let the view show through?
Your building looks pretty average, a normal representation of a real world structure.
It might be that you have shiney turned on and the neighbor doesn't, that could make a big difference in how good or bad something looks.

Looks ok to me

Your neighbor does not own the view. I recommend raising your building a bit.. put teleports below it. There is no zoning in most of SL.. so he/she might be reacting to wanting a more natural surrounding. Tell them to move to a zoned residential

Well, for starters, it would look a lot better if you had a 256 prim gaping butthole facing your neighbor's property Beauty is in the eye of the blah blah and all that.

Its not an ugly building. However, the trees that clip through your walls suck.

Satai-
As for the build- it looks alright- its not overwhelmingly artsy, but it is not an eyesore by any means. In my opinion, it could benefit from some variation in textures and somewhat more understated signage, but that's my taste. Your mileage will, of course, vary.
I'd hope that before you abuse report the neighbor, that you -*very diplomatically*- ask him/her to move/ angle the offensive trees & explain the situation. Please exhaust all kindly means of resolution before filing a negative report that you cannot retract. There is no pleasing everyone, but 99% of people will work with you if you are tactful & cooperative. I sure hope you guys can work this out to where everyone feels like they won. Good Luck!

If they are linden trees you can make them not visible in the debug menu. Debug Rendering Types Trees Not really a long term solution but maybe a way for you to continue your film work. -Sun

I wouldn't call it an architectural masterpiece, but it's by no means ugly. It's far nicer than most boxes you see around. You might want to work on better aligning the textures on the roof, but other than that it's well crafted and has enough details to keep it interesting.
The real question I'd have is, what is what do the surrounding builds look like? A modern build like that might be totally out of place in a classical Mediterranean neighborhood, or an Old West theme area, etc. As they say, there's no accounting for taste.
