Hi, I was shooting my first models yesterday, and am having a hard time finding the perfect settings.. I turned my draw distance to about 50m or as low as I could, then turned on basic shaders, local lights, and hiked up the avatar rendering.. but I'm still getting rough edges on the legs, shoulders, hair, etc... and it's creating more post production than I'd like to have to do.
Can you recommend some tricks for me?
Here is my first model, this one I am happy with the turnout.

Go into debug settings and turn on Hi Res Snapshots To Disk. And, if you're willing to risk it, try the 1.20.xx RC client. Run it in Ultra mode toggle custom and pull in the draw distance if you're lagging and kill Impostors. Then go into Hardware settings and turn on 4xAntiailiasing. Heh... If your computer can handle it, feel free to make those your permanent settings. It's seriously immersive. (^_^) If you check out any of my snapshots on snapzilla that were taken since I visited Bay City, those are fine examples of how smooth things can look. Even after the very poor compression that comes with a postcard snapshot. They're much nicer than the resized ones that you get first from the site. I would post one here... But, it's too huge for the way the forum formats. (^_^)y

wowo sideways, that bridge shot is great!
I realized after going outside last night that the water reflections were hot! must've been the basic shaders.
and crap, I may have left the imposters on! is that when you see fuzzy's after about 10m?

From: Davin Romano wowo sideways, that bridge shot is great! Thanks... I am quite proud of that one. (^_^) From: someone I realized after going outside last night that the water reflections were hot! must've been the basic shaders. Totally!!! Going Ultra is an EPIC improvement from where SL was when I started... ONLY 6 MONTHS AGO! (>_< From: someone and crap, I may have left the imposters on! is that when you see fuzzy's after about 10m? Yeah.. That's impostors, but they look way worse than that pic you posted so I don't think it's the actual problem. What I see is regular aliasing jaggies that come from a high contrast image rendered at screen resolution. I'll continue to suggest the Hi Res setting and Antiailiasing. That way you'll have a rather smooth pic to start with, and you can scale it down in PS, PSP, GIMP which also smooths out jaggies. (^_^)y

The option only exists in the current RC. You'll see it in the 'Hardware Options' of the graphics tab. There will be a check box for 'anisotropic filtering' and a pull down for 'Antiailiasing'. I set the filtering on and AA to 4x. The first one will help add detail to heavily stretched textures due to extreme viewing angles (think: floor and walls to your sides) and, of course, AA will kill the stair-stepping effect by turning regular jagged line rendering to a gradient that appears to be a smoother line. (^_^) Crud, I'm all geeked out now. (>_<
