PIXELS IN THE WIND
An installation for Burning Life 2006 featuring...
MY Second Life.
And... a series of things will happen the coming days (read further down) and please come back!
Burning Life (Modhuine) (169, 228, 23)
————————
In the end all of our lifes are nothing more than a series of memories. Many of us try to capture these memories in pictures, snapshots which cristallize a moment of our life in a set of pixels. I am no exception. With me, most of these pictures feature people, because it's people that make our (Second Life) worthwhile, every kind of people!
So that's what I have done: I invited all of my friends and many other people who were important for my Second Life to send me a picture of themselves. Most of them responded and sent me a snapshot. Some even sent RL pictures. Thank you to all of you who participated.
All of these pictures are now placed on 298 quadratic pillars, which I placed on my Burning Life parcel. The picture is on the top side of the pillar, partly hidden at first by a pink cube. There are some Second Life logos and some words on a few pillars, too. Not all of those I asked, have send pictures. That's why you will find some grey textures too, colored like the gray goo we all love so very much.
The pink cubes hide those pictures like the time hides my memories. The memories are not gone. If I try a little, I can remember. And the pictures are not hidden perfectly. Because the pink cubes are hollow and semi-transparent. If you hover above the columns you can peak through the pink cubes and see the pictures.
I have placed some pose balls on a few cubes. Please sit down (no naughty poses) and sit there for a while.
But memories are temporary. Sometimes they move into front and some vanish (more or less) forever after a while. My installation reflects this too.

For a period of three days the pillars will stand there, bare on the dry ground. Then, on the last day of Burning Life, they will disappear, too, flicker an little bit and then go "poff" - like Pixels in the Wind.

All that is left then will be the objects in the center of the installation, "things" which characterize what I do in Second Life, what material things were important, what I did and what I love to do. My first house as mini version, a lamp, a Swedish flag (of course!), many many many shoe boxes, and and and ...
