Sailboats!

A whole bunch of people have organized and are participating in an ongoing Sailboat and Pirate Show in Sanchon(224,91). They're all based on Kanker Greenacre's Flying Tako 3 scripts, so the boats will sail using actual wind physics. (I haven't sailed in RL, but if it's as similar to the Tako as RL sailors say it is, it's easier than it looks.)

The boats started showing up yesterday when the docks were laid out and they'll be on display through Tuesday. We're having a competition for the best textures, best hulls, best bestest... But what I enjoy about the boat show is seeing how people take this little dinghy and reconstruct it into a catamaran, a racer, or a humongous pirate frigate. (with working cannons). It's great to give people one simple thing such as "sailboat" and seeing how each person will interpret it. I hope others take the time to go to Sanchon themselves, but I took several pictures.

Boat Show, Day 2

We're still getting entries for the boat show or the exhibition, so I have even more pictures to share. Everyone is enjoying this show so much, I even managed to get the show extended until Saturday!

All the boat entries owe their sail ability to the Flying Tako design. Come see its evolution from dingy dinghy to elite wind harvesting machine.

But wait, there's more!
05-23-2006 23:05
The pirates have invaded Sanchon full force today.

Pirates big and small.

And one more entry into the competition, which ends at 6 PM SLT, Thursday, 25 May 2006.

People can still enter boats in the competition and the entire boat show will be out on display until Saturday, 27 May 2006. When I managed to get the show extended, I decided what the hell, let's see if we can fill the whole sim in boats. Anyone reading this who has their own boat design is welcome to bring it on down and help me meet this goal. :p

I had to fly out of the sim and set draw distance to 256 meters to get this shot.

Building a galleon in four days.
05-25-2006 00:17
This galleon currently began construction on Wednesday. It's due to be completed this Saturday. Of course, the cannons are already working.

A smaller model of the planned galleon, lit by the soft glow of a plywood lamp. The ship's designer, Susan Dangle, stands to the side.

Anyone have a photo of the catboat that Mannie's sells?

I just read about it today on the forum, but can't log in to SL until I get home tonight.

Would love to see a photo of a SL Cap Cod Catboat (hopefully we are not talking about a catamaran but a old time looking wooden boat).
