I was originally inspired to build some catapults because I saw a semi-working one in Cordova one day. However this is the biggest one I've managed to build that actually works fairly consistently (like all physics objects, 'fairly consistently' is about the best we can do).
These pictures are of it in Goguen and it managed to fling 2x2x2 spheres all the way to Abbots/Rosedale.

Now all you need are sensors in every sim that look for Alby Yellowknife, and an automated aiming system. - Ace

unfortunately since avatars have a lower maximum speed limit than objects, no, you can't ride this one. I have a smaller one that you CAN ride and it tends to fling people 1 to 1.5 sims depending on angle, wind, time dilation, and the good grace of sim lag to fps ratios. Yes, I know it's a trebuchet. Once someone gets me some working rope, I'll get back to you on making a 'real' catapult
