Hi fellow artists,

I had a skin sitting on my hard drive that I thought might make a good 'metaskinning' project. People are free to groove on it, improve on it (there is some artifacting), layer it with thier own skin, color it, write on it, piss on it, whatever. Then, post a modified version back into this thread for everyone else to do the same :D.

This should be in the spirit of collaboration. I look forward to see what evolves. Be creative!

Here's another example of a similar project I found on the web:

Zoomquilt

The rules are:

1. Logos and copy must remain intact (I will not be selling this skin, and no one else should either). Put your own logo in it if you want, but, make sure people know it's not public domain. This image and all derivative works should be for personal use only.

2. If you cross over UVW seams, it has to be a clean cross-over. In other words, no ugly seams once wrapped around the avatar head.

P.S. If anyone does see an avatar not following rule 1, ask them to stick thier tongue out and say "ahh", nail it to thier chin, then direct them to this thread.

Oh, and if you don't want to have grey eyelashes just make the texture float above the background layer and cut the grey rectangle out of the upper right of the image. I wanted to load a JPEG here, so I had to flatten it.

Here's a snapshot of the wrapped skin inside SL:

That is really good. I have done similar things but not as well because I have yet mastered certain things but I hope it will be okay for me to share sometime soon?
I use to do creative things with textures in the appearance slider.
I even made hunchback of notredam, Cartoon Wolf, other various strange things.
Give me few days and I look up some photo's of things I have done just with textures and appearance slider.
I have made textures and put them on my avatar in the past but I haven't figured out certain things like skins and transparency.
I am not sure though I can do it so I may not post what I have done. LOL

Anyone is welcome to alter this in any way. It doesn't have to be full coverage (go over the seams). Someone could even elaborate on the little subliminal "Blockhead Guy" (which happened purely by accident due to bilateral symmetry) holding the logo over the tongue. I also toyed with the idea of letting a more human skin bleed through the large pores in this skin, but I'm going to let others decide where it goes from here. I've planted the seed.

It's all about collaboration and learning. I find collaboration and learning by example is sometimes the best approach. So, don't be shy people! I want to learn something too!

That's a nice looking texture, Nam. It looks like a procedural. What did you use to generate it?

Yes, it is procedural. It came from ZBrush's materials editor. I tweaked it until I got something that looked like a pitted lattice structure. I had to do a bit of post production work in Photoshop to blend 6 different light sources and add the Flaming Pear "Solidify C" effect.

I haven't really seen much of Zbrush's procedurals before. It's a great looking material. Nice work.
