Ancient Lands Photo Contest

This thread is for you to post screenshots for the Event: Ancient Lands Photo Contest.

Ancient Lands is hosting a photo contest and invites you to participate. We would like to see your photographic skills using Ancient Lands as the backdrop. Please search for the island "Ancient Lands" or look up the profile: Martin McConnell.

The rules are simple:

Submit a screenshot that uses Ancient Land in the background to the Content Creation Gallery forum under the thread titled "Ancient Lands Photo Contest" by Midnight Sunday, January 7, 2007. Any posts made after Sunday will be appreciated but not included in this contest.

What is the Reward?

Four photos will be chosen for the grand prize and awarded L$1000 each. Photos will be judged on originality, lighting and the use of Ancient Lands in the content.

Fineprint: All submitors retain ownership of their photos, however, the four winning photographers will give Ancient Lands a limited usage so we can display (not sell) the pictures in an art gallery along with the photographers name.

I had a wonderful time in Ancient Lands exploring and taking dozens of photos. One of my favorite places was a hidden pool that had a beautiful lotus flower and water lilies, and some kind of strange creature lurking nearby. This is a beautiful land, full of surprises, and well worth visiting.

I think I am too late for this (time differences ) but here they are anyway!

Thank you for these submissions. I just got to work and will be picking four winners in the next few minutes.

I have picked out four pictures as winners for the contest and will explain why I chose them so you understand where my head is at. I have also decided to give out a fifth reward in appreciation for a shot that makes me feel all warm and toasty.

1. Nyamo Nomura's "AncientLand" - I chose this shot because she looks so damn cute standing on the ship. She captured the rigging, her avatar's position and also managed to get the "trophy" fish in the background. I love the alignment of the content. Unfortunately for the other submissions I believe that this photo of the ship truly captures the spirit of adventure and the beauty of the area that I was looking for.

2. BB Brody's "Missing Her on An Ancient Neon Nite" - This shot expressed how I often feel waiting on my Partner, Siera Glenbrook, to log into the game. haha. The blue color aptly portrays my mood, and the clever insertion of Brody's loved one's face above his head was a clever use of a picture showing a picture.

3. Moonbeamdane Northmead had two pictures that I must pick; "Hidden Pool" and "Lotus and Castle." Treating each picture as a different submission I will reward them both. Her submissions were well framed and invocative of the sites. I am thrilled that she discovered these locations and saw potential in them. The Hidden Pool look tranquil yet exotic. I appreciate how she captured a single Lotus blossom, symbolizing to me that beauty and peace can stand alone. The Lotus and Castle caught me by surprise. I was expecting a snapshot of the castle framed by the mountains.. but Moonbeamdane discovered the little forest near the castle and the water fountain in the corner. The shot disguises the fact that this lotus fountain is small and tucked into a side area, out of high volume traffic areas. Very well done.

SPECIAL AWARD

The special award of L$1000 will be given to Indigo Alabaster for his/her "snapshot_006" which I think of as "Woman in Fur." Some might think that this shot is simplistic but I read a lot more into it. This woman is in a private area, hidden by the trees that surround her. She appears to be patiently waiting, perhaps for a friend? A lover? Her Partner? The use of fur and the positioning of her avatar invoked a sense of curiosity in me. What is she really there for?


I would like to thank each and every person for submitting their snapshot(s). The winners need to send me their winning snapshot in-game and upon receipt of that snapshot I will reward them with the prize money.

Thank you again for taking up this challenge and I appreciate everyone who contributed. I do plan on having similar contests in the future and of course will post it in Events with a thread under Gallery.
