It sure does. have been playing with it in Preview aswell.
So for your question Caleb, head into preview, rez a box go in edit, and open the texture tab. There is a extra option for planar or default mapping.

*** SQUEAL! ***

Finally, I can complete the finishing touches on my Yellow Submarine and release it. ^_^

So how does planar mapping affect spheremapping and mapping on a twisted shape? Does it get rid of the 'jaggies'?

Thank goodness! I'm glad to see my manual fixing for this is obseleted. It's such a pain.

Last I checked, it does some really crazy distortion of the texture on cylinders, spheres and tori.
