I have to say there's a lot of great pictures that definately deserved all they got for this. Congrats guys! But I also have to say that i'm a bit disappointed at how many of the pictures that got up on the winners I would amply describe as winning by popularity contest. I'm not going to name any of these pictures, and no offense to the creators but in terms of quality, there was better pictures around. And it seems to me that this is the product of mass popularity voting (i.e.: tell everyone in a sim or group they own to vote for them).
But I'm not too surprised it turned out to be partially a popularity contest, every contest in Second Life is to some point. But I suppose that's why all these new catergories popped up like "Best Shirow reference" lol.

Lol Artemis So true, but i am happy to see the creativity of so many people stimulated to this point. In this way (and this is probably the only way that really matters) it has been a really great success, and i am extremely happy about it (and anyway i personally absolutely agree with at least 2 of the winners, i couldnt have chosen better myself) Moreover having the name of Shirow-Sensei associated to mine, for once, is a real honor

Same with all the ones that got rightfully first place in the photoshopped catergory.

From: Artemis Fate ... there was better pictures around... I'm with you Artemis. It's clear some entries bore more relevance to the subject matter and showed more effort than others. I'm glad to see the extensive turnout in the submissions. Maybe eliminating prizes and ranking altogether is the best approach in future events.

I am sorry you feel that way, but as with any contest, unfortunately popularity somehow sneaks into the mix of things. While we didnt have any control over the way voting went, I did want to tell you some of the rules we set up to make this contest as fair as possible. 1. One person could only win one prize. Sooooo, if a photographer technically won more then one place, or more then one category, they were awarded the highest prize they qualified for. For example, Aimee's Noir, did technically win 2nd place in the nonphotoshopped category, however, her BBQ Kitchen won 1st in the Photoshopped category, and since that was a higher prize, we gave the 1st place win to her (well and the other two that tied for that place). This was so that more people's names would be mentioned and more people would win prizes. 2. As far as the categories poppin up, we actually only originally had 2 judges choice spots, however we were unable to decide between the 6 people that we considered for these two categories, sooo, instead of throwing them completely out the door, we created these categories so that we could award them these prizes as well and have more winners. In the end though, we were able to recognize a lot of wonderful photos by many different people, and that is the best that we can ask of any subjective rating system Also, for the most part winners were very close, differentiated by only one vote, which is part of the reason that we had a three way tie in the 1st place photoshopped category. Sooo, for the most part, I dont think these people won because they told their friends to go vote, otherwise the margin would be much larger then one vote, and most likely would not have ended up with a tie Axel, as good as the idea of eliminating prizes and ranking, and in effect taking the contest part out of the equation sounds, I highly doubt I would have gotten quite the response that I did Unfortunately, as in the real world, money IS sometimes the driving force in some of the things we do. And as far as the photos that you guys felt deserved to win more then others, in the end that is a personal choice, and is different for everyone, which is evident in the spread of votes. The only thing that anyone could have done was to encourage more people to go vote, but unfortunately, during the voting period, I was working 12 hour shifts and was unbable to host more "voting" parties. Although, I was sorta subconciously counting on everyone else to encourage more people to look at all the photos and vote . And overall, my main goal was for people to have fun, explore their creativity and contribute to the community with this contest, and in that sense, it was a total success

Hi all First of all, congratulations to everyone who participated. Speaking for myself, I was overwhelmed by the quality of the submissions. I'm glad to have met some more talented artists for this experience. We weren't expecting so many amazing pictures. At some point, it became clear that we were going to need more prizes to recognize these contributions - there was definately some last-minute scrambling I just wanted to add that one of our judging criteria was that noone single person should receive more than one prize - there weren't enough prizes as it was. Anyways, thanks everyone who participated in the contest, as an artist or a spectator Also, special thanks to Ariel Roentgen and Bel Muse for their tireless work in making this contest run at all!

I had such a fabulous time running around SL taking the pics and then just winging it in PSP (I have no prior experience in photo-shopping). I would love to see more contests like this in the future, of course I don't expect prizes to always be quite so grand though! I was actually shocked at the pic of mine that was chosen for 2nd Place Judge's Choice....it was personally my least favorite of all my 5 entries, but that just proves again what Ariel said about it all being a matter of personal choices. Congrats to all the winners and what an awesome job for ALL the entries, its amazing to see the creativity we each have

This contest was a lot of fun and I wanted to thank the folks that voted for me, it really means a great deal to me. I'm sincerely proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with the internet's finest artistic talent. I would also like to give a super special congratulations to Stacy Maracas, who's staggering vote count on every one of her photos bucked anybody's statistical expectation. I think we will all be keeping an eye on THIS artist in the future
