This dosn't have anything to do with SL directly, but is another skinning project I've been working on for a tool I use all the time with SL. It's a steampunk Wacom cobbled together from old airbrush, pen, wallet, and obligatory clock parts! So far the pen is complete (a fully functional Intuos 2), and a lot easier to disassemble than the standard Wacom pen. I will be converting the tablet portion into an instrument that looks sort of like an antique lap desk once I have all the wood, glass, and brass fittings cut to specs.

Some of the restrictions I ran into were that no metal parts could extend in front of the resonating coil (sitting inside the pen under the gold tip and leather grip). You may ask "Isn't the tip metal?". Answer: Yes and No. It is guilded in micron thin 24 karat gold. It gives a nice metalic sheen, but does not interfere with the resonating signal.

That is WONDERFUL. I just wish I were skilled with metal things in RL so I could steam up my compy, too.

Have you considered "punking" the tablet, too, perhaps like this fellow's laptop?

And don't forget to get your Steamy sounds for your OS! (Now THAT I found myself capable of installing. Frightened my doggie first time I opened Windows, poor thing)

That is SO cool! I use an Intuous 2 as well....I *could* pimp my pen, too- although I might first get a spare one in case I f*** up the old one (I think they're still sold-I got a spare mouse a while back)

Yes, definitely keep what you work with on a regular basis UNALTERED. My Intuos 2 has been gathering dust for about a year and a half, ever since I upgraded to my Intuos 3, so I figured what the heck. Once you pull the pen apart (not an easy task) there is no turning back because it requires cutting a channel along the exterior of the plastic joint assembly to loosen it.

This poor guy...

...made the mistake of forcing his Intuos 2 pen open by brute force. Luckily, I found his posting prior to disassembling my pen, and was able to extract the electronic guts of the pen without incident.

Nam, that is fantastic! Thanks for sharing this. I can't wait to see how the tablet turns out.

Yes, truely a labor of love. The flat panel and keyboard are classic Von Slatt style. Mr. Von Slatt and Datamancer have both been heavy influences for my Wacom concept. I hope Mr. Von Slatt still has his guest blog going by the time I finish this project. It would be cool to submit it.
