There's a few long-running threads full of shots of lovingly-detailed, very human avs. But now and then I see avatars that stand out. Wild, crazy avatars that really aren't pretending to be human, or anything else quite recognizable. Small gods. Aliens. Monsters. Impossibilities. This is what I tend to end up being, and admiring.

Here's a couple of mine - let's see yours!

This one ended up looking like a refugee from one of Moebius' comics.
(I'm the one on the right.)

I call this one "Jaylene Slide", after a minor character in Gibson's "Count Zero" whose avatar is described as being pretty abstract.

Well, here's the avatar that I've been using for quite some time, made it from scratch back in November, and I haven't worn anythign since. I originally was going to sell them, but decided against it, so this is the only suit like this in SL.

I've also set up a script to cloak it, so it turns invisible and visible on command.

The blue is the way it looks now, the red is and earlier variant.

Very cool. I like the notion of an avatar as stylized art. Not something I want to do-I like to shop too much. But I like that someone is doing it.

My bestest avvie to date. Though now I'm starting to work on a "generation 3" version that will feature (bad news) more prims, probably, and (good news) not every prim being set Light property and lagging those with local lighting on. :)

Hee, only one weird av from me; I posted this one a while ago. Sorry about the large picture size. Hehe, sometimes I just fall apart into my component prims, and they float around for a while. :D

Hi Mechanique! I still think Jaylene is the coolest av, evar. :D

Edit: gack, I didn't expect it to inline the image. Sorry everyone! :o

Hey Mechanique, I love the spiraly AV. But how did you manage to make yourself invisible?

They're called 'invisiprims' by most folks... they're just prims textured with one of several weird system textures that basically cause the client not to render anything behind them. Ask pretty much anyone in a sandbox and they'll probably have one they can pass to you. :)

What Cross said, Zindorf. I sent you an "invisiprim refresh script"; rez out a prim and drop the script into it. In a few seconds it'll vanish. There's a few visual defects; it hides avs, particles, and alpha textures. I'm careful where I stand when I take Nice Photos of the spiral av!

Basically, the spiral av is a tight-fitting suit of prims that obscures every inch of the avatar beneath. These are made invisible, and the spiral prims are intersecting 'em, so it looks like I'm just a set of tortured, twisted prims. As tortured as my soul! Or something.

Thanks, Cross! I love the "component prims" one - that's just wrong. I want to meet up with that one and run sex animations.

Jennifer, I do have some more "normal" avs too, but they have their quirks too. Like ten-meter-long hair that penetrates deep into whatever I'm standing on.

Psyra, that phoenix kicks ass.

Wow! All the avatars presented in this thread are fantastic. Keep it up, I love seeing how creative people can be.
