This is a novelty thread to post pictures of ugly foot shadows. (You know what they say about a picture being worth!) This piccie was taken in the latest 1.7 Preview Griddie just a few secs ago. I hope someday, thanks to advanced Linden foot shadow zapping tech, they will be a memory. :D

I honestly haven't noticed foot shadows at all, I have the cool local lighting on which occasionally puts pink shadows on things but the shoe-rez evilness is really annoying me, poor Heart Wishbringer, her lovely high-heeled shoes are magnets for this horrible phenominom :(

kk! ok, (borrowed from the lovely SLuniverse.com site) here are a couple of slovely pics of two of SL's most beautifull designers, Joe and Heart, and the background around the excellent shoes is wrong, I call it shoe-rez, and it is a menace to society :( . It sticks like glue around your high heels and can ruin an otherwise perfect pic! *sigh*

Yeesh... you're talking about the one on Heart's right foot, right? The sort of flat brownish area? Q I must ask: does she use alpha prims in her footwear? 'Cuz if she does, using them for "tricks" like high heels and special curvatures will cause such effects. I see it a lot too, but let me know if this is what you're describing. :(

I don't think it's a matter of rezzing, actually—it's fully rezzed, it's just a layering clash that happens with alpha textures. I'm sure you've seen it before.

The invisible texture trick that will "erase" bits of your foot will also erase bits of prims with alpha textures. If you want to avoid it, make sure you are standing on the ground or on a platform with a 24-bit texture and 0 transparency.

Ugh, Torley thanks for pointing out this thread lol. I of course have that proposal out there to give us the option of turning these shadows OFF (Prop 234). These shadows get in the way so much it's annoying, especially when you're trying to do pictures for ads or displays. Here's an example of what we have to put up with sometimes..although it can be much worse trying to do a picture sitting on furniture.

Tomo, that sure sux, especially the one of you sitting down on the easychair.

Welkies Tor... see, the impression I get is that here's an annoyance that's been awhile, and I often hear agrhrhrhhh about it from Resis both inworld and on here. It's kinda like the squeaky gate that never gets the oil, y'know? So might as well make some humor about it while raising a type of electronic social conscious—serious and fun at the same time.

And yes... I saw your voting proposal and allocated votes! Prob is... there are two such proposals for the same thing, also this one:

http://secondlife.com/vote/index.php?get_id=490

and it occurs to me that this is, at the very most, a microfeature—or a featurette. Rather, the LACK of it would be more desirable.

So, continuing to just journey along the road of SL... foot shadows attached (for now)!

Don't give up hope! :D

LOL ack!..notice mine was proposed in April, that one just started in July. Do a search folks! Make sure what your proposing isn't already there! Yeah I've accepted it's just something we have to deal with, it seems like such a small thing to ask for really but...patience.

Someday Tor, we'll wake up, and they'll be gone when we hop out of bed! IMAGINE THAT!

Also on a related note... I've assembled a dozen Snapzilla piccies into an album titled "Ugly Foot Shadows in SL". :) It's kind of postmodern, except, more post and not really modern.

yep, I really dislike the foot shadows.
One thing that really bugs me is when I add alpha textures to a prim shoe and they collide with the shadow....then when i move the cam it looks like its blinking on and off like a lightbulb...
(looks worse from a distance)

here's what I mean...:

for taking pics, an easy workaround is taking one pic, then turn off Alpha rendering, and take another (same camera position), then in PS just paste the shoes area on top of your first pic. But only works if:
1)Your pose does not move at all (no av swaying)
2)Your shoes donsnt have alpha textures

Only thing i can suggest until LL does something about the ugly shoe shadow :)

if you are cutting out your image for an ad, you can try what I do, hover then pose in your photo box, or add your pose to a pose ball and lift it up :D
