Hi! Just signed up to the forums and have just tried my go at making a 'fountain' object in second life. I am a keen computer programmer and am currently studying computer science at university,

Anyway!

I have made my object - and now i want to animate a cylinder so it looks like water is throwing out the top of it.

I have found 2 programmes avimator and posemaker - but as i understand it this is for avators only. How would I go about trying to make this animation and are there any free animations already within Second Life. I am not currently a paying member - and want to test the waters before i jump in as such,

Thanks in advance for your time!

This is actually a question for the scripting forum, not here. As you noted, in sl "animation" only refers to avatars really; for your fountain, you would want a script to move a texture of water on the object.

You need a TextureAnim script. You can find it for free at any freebie place. You can also IM the Second Life Builders group and anyone can give you a copy.

oh wow Thank you so much guys!

Ok, if thats that - now I guess i need to have some sort of loop which creates prims that look like water splashs.

Any idea for that?

Also I am currently "exploring a bin" for some free textures, I now have texture objects like 851 free wall textures in my inventory - but how do i get the textures out of them and into my list of possible textures to draw with!

Thanks so much,

ANdy

Getting contents out of the object

Drag object to the ground (assuming the land owner will let you) right click on it and select 'open' then in the box that appears choose 'copy to inventory'. Hey presto the objects contents (textures) should appear in your inventory. Just look in the inventory recent items to find them. Rember to take the box away or deleted it!

texture next step!

Assuming you have the textures in your inventory you need to create an object then while in the object's edit mode choose the texture tab in the edit box. From here double click the texture box (the left square picture) and search for your texture to select it. Alternatively just drag the texture (left click and hold) from inventory to the objects texture box in it's edit menu.

So simple? Or did I mis read your query??
Have fun!
Really a question for the building forums.

I think you could use a particle effect for this - again a question for the scripting forum.

Good luck :)
