Thoughts on shop design?

I've been running my own animation shop here for several years, but building isn't my strong suit, so I have SL's Ugliest Shop -- just a floor with no walls. :) I've decided it's finally time to spruce things up, so I've been looking at prefab shops and the like. I have 4000m2 to work with.

So, does anyone have any suggestions on the sort of building that is best suited for an animation store? One story or two? High ceilings? Do customers care much about architectural niceties, or should I favor functionality over style? Prefab or hire a builder? Or (gasp) try to overcome my aversion to building and create my own?

No walls is actually not a bad thing IMHO depending on how you make and display your animations, because you avoid any chance of the customer's cam jumping through a wall when they sit to where they can't see the animation. Whenever I get around to redoing my shop, it'll either be quite open with few if any walls or made so my displays can be placed away from walls and other obstacles. I now have lots of huge windows but it could be better.

High-ish ceilings are probably good for similar reasons, so customers who are adept with the camera controls have an easy time panning around and looking from all angles.

Other than that... well, I think I've done OK with my own shop and the few other builds I've done, but there are lots of people more qualified than I to give building advice :)

If you don't get enough responses in here, I don't think your question is inappropriate for Building Tips or even Resident Answers (the latter only if you don't mind some off-topic chatter mixed in).

You should take a look at other stores and see what you like about them and what you don't like. Try incorporating similar designs that seem to work and make shopping easier.

Thanks for your replies. Yeah, I'll do some market research, and maybe post in other forums. I wanted to start here because I figured I wouldn't get a bunch of builders eager to sell me their particular design -- I am looking for disinterested advice.

Yeah, I did go with no walls for the reasons you state. But I think a big enclosed space, with lots of distance to play with, would work as well -- and would give the place a more coherent feel.
