Free Program for official Avatar Models?

Are there any free modiling programs that can import the .obj or whatever to edit these things for free?
Too bad poser's not free :(

List of Cool Things I've done first... I think
  1. Put on sale a key mod that makes SL more like an FPS
  2. Made my own custom attachment points - looking for a good use
  3. Found "secret" login screen.
  4. Created a way to call Java methods from LSL --> Thread

Chip Midnight recommended Tattoo, but I haven't been able to get it working on my machine. You might give it a try, though.

Another SLer mentioned MilkShape, which I have downloaded and installed. It is open source and imports the SL .obj format without a hitch! However, it looks like it's more oriented toward animations than for skinning. I am still working through some tutorials, most of which deal with creating the underlying model mesh (which you don't need due to the SL obj).

Anyhow, I will mess around with this some more, and let you know if it might be another good alternative.

theres one in the scripting library, it has tips inside the scripting and reccomends Milkshape 3d
