AO that stops "typing"

Is there a way to make my avatar do the typing action when she's talking? One that doesn't make me hunt through static poses (which is a pain to have if you're holding a scripted object) and fill up my AO. Is there an easier way to get rid of the typing gesture' ?

you can type a slash at the beginning of your sentance:

/the typing animation bugs me and I want it to stop

/I want more pie, please

/voila!

But won't the slash appear in the dialogue?

Right now I usually type: /me smiles. "<insert text>"

A little trying when you're in the middle of explaining something long and lengthy.

Yes, the slash will appear. But if you don't type 'me" following the slash, it will show up as a regular sentence (i.e. on screen, you will see "you: /blah blah blah blah pie" as opposed to " Yuriko Muromachi blah blah blah blah pie";)

It's not perfect I suppose, but you don't get the hand movements and the typing sound.

Put two slashes at the start instead of one. No slashes at all appear in the dialogue.

Typing "/0 Hi!" will make you say "Hi!" in public chat. No slashes or anything. Scripters will recognize this as channel 0 when used with llSay() or llWhisper().

The double slash (//) actually makes you say something on the last /channel you used. So if you typed "/1 ao off", then typed "//Hi!", you'd be typing the same thing as "/1 Hi!". This wouldn't accomplish much, unless you wanted to say hi to your AO. :D

I didn't know the doubleslash (//) one. Thanx for the tip, I'll give that a spin.

This is great! Thanks for the great tip. :)

*is enjoying the no typing gesture and annoying keyboard sounds*

You guys are sort of going off-topic... Anyways, to answer your question, I suggest you do what I did; I made myself a few poses that are totally static. You can use AvMotion for this, and it is very simple. Just create your pose on the 1st frame only and no others.

Maybe Im not understanding the question.

Are you not setting the priority to 4 when you import the animation into SL?

She doesn't want to use any script for that, especially AO. So any animation files can't help her. The typing trick was the decent way for her. ;)

Since // repeats on the last channel you used, which may not always be great if you want to talk to any gadgets you own, try using /0<text>. That'll send it on the main chat channel every time, and not do any typing anim.
