Im sure this has been asked before, but I can't find it specifically answered in the archives. Is it possible to import a Poser avatar into SL? Or at the least, to take the SL avatar downlaod file, make changes to it offline in Poser and then import it back into SL? What I'd really like to do is use the Poser avatars that are offered on http://www.DAZ3d.com, but I'm guessing I can only use the avatar provided by SL. Thanks...Cazzj

I don't think you can, but Linden surely should be upgrading avatar functionality.

Thanks for answering so fast! I wish LL would allow this too. How is it that some avatars are taller than I can make mine in "Appeareance"?

As long as the file you intend to use / play with in poser is in an acceptable format such as pz3 or bvh. then all you simply need to do is import it into Poser. Once done, export the file as a bvh. and upload into SL. There is a lot of information around the forums reference this that is worth reading if you are just starting out, reference particulars and requirement.
Ben Stravinsky, i animate.

Thanks, Ben. I'm talking about importing the actual character from Poser into SL. I'm guessing if I start with the avatar file provided by LL ( http://secondlife.com/downloads/avatar.php), and make mods to that, I should be pretty safe. At least that's a good place for me to start, as I'm new to Poser. Thanks for the followup!

Second Life uses a completely different model system to the one in Poser, the animations exported by Poser only explain the movement of specific limbs, and so do not apply to the geometry of models.
The reason you can import a SL-like model into Poser to make sure your animations will look correctly on in-game avatars without needing to import, as the Poser defaults are somewhat different in structure. Hope this helps.

SL's avatar mesh can only be morphed by supplied tools ingame (avatar customization).
