I've been using QAvimator for a couple months to make animations. I got the hang of it, but I find it drastically unsuited for making more complex animations and I don't even want to consider trying couples animations using something like QAvimator.

So, I want to graduate to Poser. What version should I start with? I want a version that the majority of tutorials out there were created for.

Most of the tutorials are written for version 6, but they translate easily to the current version 8. Version 8 has animation layers which can come in very handy.

I would start with version 8, but if you look around you may be able to find version 6 at a much cheaper price.

Hmm, well, I gave DAZ Studio 3 a try cuz it's free, and I am pretty impressed. I think I'll hold off on spending a mini-fortune on Poser.

Any version of Poser from Version 2 upwards can be used for making animations for SL.

Last time I checked, you could download a trial Poser version free from Smith Micro - so I suggest you try before you buy.

That was my original plan, but it doesn't appear they currently offer free trials on Poser. I looked here:

That's a shame - Poser used to be in the list of free trial downloads at Smith Micro. :(

It can be worth checking out eBay for used copies - and Content Paradise sometimes has older version for sale at a lower price.

I think that is not so. there are a difference in the bvh version that is made with poser <5 and the type that is used in sl. If anyone know a method to make poser 4 produced bvh-files useable in sl, i i would be very interested.

Hi Abraxes, you have to use the Poser 2 figure and you also need an add-on for Poser 6, but I've not heard of anyone with problems with Poser 4 until you mentioned this. Have you tried using bvhacker to see if that can help?
