Animations, both the SL defaults and purchased ones, are designed for a typical avatar height. If you have a shorter avatar like I do, they leave you sitting above the ground. Unfortunately, there isn't any way to modify animations. You can create your own using one of the free programs that are available (Qavimator or DAZ studio), and replace the SL default sit animation using an animation override program.

What really messes up the animation isn't so much the height of the avatar, but the ratio between leg length and height.

There is also a separate hud for sitting on ground available for free at Tail of Two Kitties. Not that it matters much, but isn't it the other way around? When my child avatar tried sitting using regualr poses he ended up below the suface, while child poses could leave him hovering slightly. *scratches head*

I use qav, when I work on an animtion for kids and adjust the height of the kid and the postion of the model I can make it sit in, on, or above the ground depending on height, is there some kind of way to tell where the ground in qav would actully be? and what would be the right height for an av thats typicaly 3 feet 9 inches, or 4 feet?

From: Galena Qi If you have a shorter avatar like I do, they leave you sitting above the ground. I am 5'6" (prim height) in SL and have no issue with hovering above the ground when i sit. I am always firmly planted on the terra if not sinking a little into it. Maybe it is a proportion thing with your avatar.
