Frames for a walk cycle?

Hi! I'm sure somebody out there has had this problem so, rather than frustrate myself tinkering, I thought I'd ask the old pros - I'm making myself a personal walk cycle, and was wondering how many frames to use.

I checked the default SL cycle, which is 14 frames, but I know that the SL cycle often comes out too fast and slows/speeds itself depending on different factors. Since we don't have that leisure with custom anims, any idea how many frames (at 30 FPS) makes a nice looking cycle, walking on flat ground at a normal speed?

Any advice would be nice! ^^

the best way is to just take a couple steps yourself and try and roughly guess how long it takes. Im guessing maybe 20-25 frames for each step (keep it at 30fps). The best way to learn how to make a great walk cycle is to watch someone else or video tape yourself walking. Its going to be tough, it takes a while before you can make the feet plant on the land without looking like they are sliding around.

Yeah I guess, thinking about it more, my leg length, height, and how long the stride is will all affect how long it has to be... I suppose no help for tooling around with it. x3 Thanks for the insight. ^^
