Poser 8 - Moving around character

I'm a new user to Poser 8 and have been learning through tutorials. I hit a speed bump when asked to drag my character to the ground to a seated position. I can't seem to drag my character up and down. Instead my character rotates around the position she is in in the air. I'm using a Mac. Any suggestions as to what I need to do?
