appearance help

i just got this thing today, and when i'm trying to change my appearance, it won't let me change the shoes. it won't let me take the hair off. it won't let me change my makeup. i'm really confused. do you need to get a job and then buy stuff? i'm so confused! i already tried going to inventory but there is nothing else to wear?

There is a permission system in SL for content creators. IF the skin you have on is no mod then you cannot modify the makeup. Most skins are that way.

You are probably wearing prime hair. That is an attachment not the actual avatar hair. You have to detach it. Same with your shoes as they are probably prime shoes. Right click them and select detach.

There is a ton of free stuff available to get you started. The better stuff does cost money. You can either buy $L or get a job, camp, or make and sell stuff. Buying $L is the easiest. you can get $265L for $1USD.

Look for the "Library"-folder. A lot of stuff if you poke around there. If you are wearing stuff you want off, try to type "worn" in the inventory search and detach/take off from there. Attached prims cannot be removed when in appearance mode the same way as shirt and pants.

Lots of helpful folks there who answer questions like this all the time, and I know a few of the regulars have free "SL noobie packages" with a bunch of useful items in them that they hand out in-world.

This forum is geared toward the people who make custom animations (cool walks, dances etc.) so you might not get the variety of general advice here you'd get in that other forum. Although Jodina and Darion sure got things off to a great start
