[Sorry -- wrong forum and I can't delete this.]
What is the maximum texture resolution?
I uploaded a 2048x2048 texture and got no complaints from the system (which was surprising -- it didn't even resize it before upload, either), however the texture was definitely not at that resolution in the game, so it must have been resized. It was, however, fairly high resolution and looked stunning on a 10mx10m board.
(I apologize if this is documented somewhere.)
Thanks,

I think the resolution you see depends on the size of your video card memory that you specify in preferences. JPEG2000 is neat in that the server can break down a larger texture into smaller resolutions and send higher resolutions progressively if your video card can handle it and if your camera is close enough to the textured surface that the extra level of detail is needed. I think this is the maximum texture size that will download and display for each video memory setting: 16MB - 128x128 32MB - 256x256 64MB - 512x512 128MB - 1024x1024 256MB - 2048x2048 (presumably) I've not heard this officially, but I've heard it from more than one person. This would explain why you can set the preferences for your video card memory smaller than what it's capable of, if you want to save on bandwidth for example. So while you can upload a 2048x2048 texture, you probably won't see it unless you get a graphics card with 256MB memory. Also, you won't even be downloading the full texture when you view it, just one of the progressive stages, so it will appear blurrier than the original. PS: I'd probably not recommend going above 512x512 for most situations. PPS: Maybe move this thread to Design and Textures forum?
