Since Poser will let you select both the male and female SL avatars in your development window, it makes sense to me that you could build a "couple's" animation sequence where body parts line up nice and evenly since you have them both there in front of you. If this is, indeed, true is there a way to export each avatar's animation into separate BVH files so that you end up with two animations that you can then put into male and female pose balls in SL? Am I close... or way off base? Please help a clueless newbie! -Bartiloux

A newbie to Poser as well, but yes you can.
Just select Figure 1, then export to BVH as one of the animations, then select figure 2 and export to BVH to create the second animation.
Then once uploaded successfully just add to poseballs and away you go.

I use a similar method for creating ao animations. I'll have 2 coppies of the same avatar loaded. For one of them I'll import the default animation for whatever I'm working on, and then I'll animate the other. This way I can compare what I'm making to the default and make sure I like mine more.
