I want to sit ON the ground, not above it

I have been trying to find good animations to use in an AO to replace the default SL ones. I am frustrated because almost all the ground sitting animations I have found put me floating in the air 2 or 3 feet above the ground. Is there some way to adjust the height at which the animation puts my avatar? I feel silly floating in the air like that. Thanks.

I know just what you mean... I have a couple of ground sit poses I can't use for the same reason. I asked about it in one of these forums not long ago and was told that the fault is in the animation-- basically, the pose would have to be redone to correct that. If there actually is a way to fix this without redoing the whole thing, I'd like to know about it as well.

You can't change the animation but you can change where you sit!

Of course shoes can raise you, leg length and height can too, but I don't imagine you want to go barefoot every time you want to sit! ;)

Instead of relying on your AO, why not put the sit in a poseball? Then you can adjust it's height perfectly!

I keep the sit empty in my AO to not interfere with custom sitting anims, so never have to turn my AO off or on. :)

But then I would have to rez the poseball whenever I want to sit on the ground, which is a hassle and can only be done in places that permit visitors to rez objects. The SL default ground sit doesn't have this problem. I wonder why it is so difficult to create alternatives that work like the original? Oh well. I have found one or two ground sits that are reasonably close to actually being on the ground, so I guess I'll just stick to those. Thanks for the replies.

Sit on ground level

You can correct the height of the default SL animations using the free Avimator program (search on these boards for the link). Download the animations from the Downloads/Avatar files part of the SL web site - they come as a zip file. Open the animation in Avimator and move the avatar's pelvis (which controls it's vertical position) to the correct height in the last frame. Don't lower the avatar to a Y-value of zero - that will put you well beneath ground level. I found that about 6-7 worked for me, but this may vary from animation to animation. Save the animation and upload it ($10L) back to SL using the appropriate settings. For a simple sitting animation these are: loop, in%/out% 100, ease in/out ~0.5. Priority 2 if you want to be able to type while sitting, 3 if you want to override typing.

The only drawback to this approach is that Avimator will make each frame of the imported animation a key frame. So you either have to lower the avatar in every frame, or turn off the key frame button on most of the frames, starting from the next-to-last frame and going backwards.

To use the uploaded animations, you'll either have to click on them every time you need them, or use an animation override to use them instead of the default ones.

Thank you! I'll try playing with this when I have a little time.
