Fix hands and feet, move others?

I'm trying to learn Poser 7 along with creating animations for myself, and it's going pretty well really.

However, say I have a pose where I need feet and hands to stay put (on floor and a desk respectively) and then I need to move other body parts, like chest, abdomen, hips, neck and head?

If I use the parameter dials for chest, the arms and hands follows. How can I make Poser fix the hands so that the arms moves in a way that the hands stay put on the desk?

The solution seems to be Inverse Kinematics, I got that tip in the official Poser forum, but that introduced some new problems, flapping arms..

If anyone else would be interested in following that thread, it can be found at http://www.contentparadise.com/forums/showthread.php?p=42121

Turn on IK for the hands; they are on for the feet by default. Note though that uploading animations to SL optimizes out small movements, so you'll have to do a little trial and error to get it looking right; what'll often happen is that the hands are perfectly still in Poser but wiggle around in SL.

Yes, thanks a lot Johan!
I've tried a little with it, here's a quote from my followup on the Poser forums, I can't get it right really.. But then, I am really, REALLY new to this.. ;)

From: Myself
But, I have follow-up on it.. I've made a substantial part without the IK for arms enabled, and when I enabled it in frame 210 (where it's needed), the arms started to "flap around" out of control from the first frame.

Do I have to redo it all, or can the IK for the arms be enabled starting on a certain frame? Or how can I keep the work I've already done and continue?

I'm guessing the flapping around is due to interpolation. Open the Animation Palette and set the keyframes on frame 2 to Break Spline.

I'm guessing the flapping around is due to interpolation. Open the Animation Palette and set the keyframes on frame 2 to Break Spline.

That made the hand be in place, but the upper left arm is "rotating" badly for about 1 second afterwards.

What does "Break spline" do/mean anyway? (I now, read the manual...) I learn better by trial and error, and pointing to actual problems instead of reading about stuff I won't use..

If this doesn't clear up easily, I'll redo it all.. It's not a matter of paid work.. ;)
