why are you still downloading SLAT

i'm the guy who wrote it.

once in a while i look a the stats and see that it is still downloaded regularly, and i always thought it was word of mouth in the SL community CUZ IT'S SUCH A WONDERFUL PROGRAM LOL.

then, a month ago, someone asked me a question about SLAT that required me to go online in SL, and i had to create a new character since they umm killed off my old one probably cuz he hadn't been seen in ages, AND I SEE THAT SL MENTIONS SLAT in a way that noobs might think means it is useful.

i stopped supporting slat a couple of years ago for 2 reasons. 1, it had grown too large and complex to "keep inside my head". those of you who program know what that means. it means that you cannot fix one bug without creating at least one new one. which makes programming very much not fun.

reason 2: some commercial vendor made an excellent version of their editor available for free. case closed. SLAT is not needed anymore.

so, here is the question: is there any reason to use slat? if so, fine. but if not, i will try to convince SL that i am indeed that slat guy and that i believe it should not be "promoted" to newbies. (on the other hand, i can't thank SL and others enough for trying to give SLAT some exposure).

finally, the reason someone asked me about slat was in reference to poses created in-game having a different number of joints or something than the palette files in slat have. if you are interested, why doesn't someone write a perl or whatever script to convert back and forth, send me a copy, and i'll put it on the sourceforge page with slat and give you credit for saving the world :)

What is SLAT?
It seems to be a program the OP specifically joined SL for in order to advertise. (^_^)y

What is SLAT?

It's a free program to create animations, I tried it for a bit before I took the leap and bought Poser. Been around a few years.

I'm reading the post like the author believes SLAT has outlived its usefulness, there are better alternatives and it should no longer be recommended unless there's some compelling reason he's not aware of. Seems fair enough.

Maybe someone could look into having the second post in that sticky thread about Animation Editors, umm, edited. It's linked there. Or if the OP is pretty sure SLAT sucks and/or is broken, he could just stop hosting it.

No, actually, QAvimator was never a commercial endeavor. As far as I know, it's DAZ, which was at one time a paid for product, and is now free, and at least one very good animator I know of (waves to Sin) uses.

I think yours has blending features? You can load 2 anims and play them blended? Plus, I liked the preview of al those little avs showing the frames...I think that was SLAT? Anyway, seems like a cool program for someone wanting source to work on and learn I bet.

Also, I bet some use it for like one or two features. I use different ones and never can settle on one, Qavimator is fast for static poses, DAZ great for less precise serendipity based poses wiht it's click and drag offerings it offers a fast way to make a long complex anim and blender is not to bad and works well since I can load a sculpt and I already know how to build and manipulate in it. If I had poser I would still use others. Though I find Qavimator used in almost everything as It seems to be faster with less bloat to check stuff before upload.
