I am making a bathtub pose. I am using DAZ 3D v1.8 with Windows XP and I have the bvh exporter installed. When I exported my pose, uploaded and tried it out, my head was stuck in place. I had all values for the head and neck joints set to zero so that default animations for looking around etc.. would have priority (or so I have read) and the "SL Compatibility" box was checked. What am I missing? Does anyone have an explanation for the options in the exporter?

I have never been able to get DAZ to export a Second Life-compatible .bvh file using the built-in exporter I made my own export plugin for DAZ which works perfectly for my own needs, and you can download it from http://www.daikonforge.com/downloads/export_to_secondlife.ds Instructions on how to install and use it can be found at http://www.daikonforge.com/webtab/dazstudio-plugins/ To see if my plugin is going to work for you, just leave all of the options at default when exporting. I rarely adjust any of those settings, unless I want the anim to run faster (or slower) or need to exaggerate the amount of lateral movement.

What matters is that there is change between frame zero and frame one for any given joint. In addition, I think the change must be at least 1 degree. So, for every joint that there is at least one degree of difference in any of the rotations between frame zero and frame one, that joint WILL be used. For every joint that there is NOT such a difference, that joint will be tossed out. So, to ensure that your head and neck are free to move, you need to be sure that the rotations are exactly the same between frame 0 and frame 1 for those two joints. Then that joint will not be used in your animation and any other thing happening will take precedence. Hope that helps ~brandi

To have what Brandi suggested work in DAZ|Studio, you actually have to disable SL Compatibality in the export dialog. It drove me nuts for a while until I figured that out.
But in your particular case, I think if you just unchecked the "E" option for the head and neck and kept the "SL Compatibality" box checked, then you don't have to do any fiddling with frame zero. Just animate normally and don't give any special treatment to the first frame.
