Is it just me or has QAvimator suddenly sprung a few problems..? About a week ago, after having used QA pretty successfully for a while I suddenly found I wasn't able to get a smooth animation between frames 2 and 60. No matter how I adjusted the frames I found they jumped from one animation position to the next. Once frame 60 arrived everything worked fine again with perfectly smooth transitions. Frustrated by this I deleted my copy of QA and downloaded the latest version. With the new version of QA installed complete with the latest updates I tried again. Everything appeared fine, smooth transitions between the initial frames..I thought, till I opened a bvh file I'd been working on the previous day (created by the latest QA version) and continued to work on it. I discovered that any new animation positions I added or adjustments to previously recorded ones resulted in jumping between frames without any smooth transition. It remains fixed in the previous recorded frame position till the next comes along and it jumps into that one, only to jump back to the previous. However, I've now discovered that if I start from scratch, create a new animation from start to finish. As long as I don't save the work to file..it works perfectly. As soon as I 'save as..' any new frames added or adjustments of previous ones have no smooth transition. So it all works perfectly as long as I complete the job in one go. The banging sound you might be hearing..is the smooth transition between my head and the keyboard.. All very frustrating..anyone else finding this..? Perre..

I've never seen that problem but I've only been using avimator recently. I think I read somewhere before that when you make things in qavimator you should save your files as .avm and only save to bvh when you are going to upload it. I could be wrong.

Hmm..interesting. That might finally explain what the avm. file was for, as it can't be used to upload to SL I've often wondered what it's purpose was. Thanks Bree I'll experiment with that and see what happens. Perre..

NOT what i wanted. My FPS is 30 with 40 frames... a i am doing is hovering on one position but the hover movement is jerky after i save and try to upload. I uploaded it anyways thinkig it might just be the program but its jerky in SL too....

Tried bvh and avm files but it didn't help, and just to frustrate me even more my frame 2 to 60 jerky frame transition has returned. I'm going to experiment on my Mac and see if the same problems are present there. Sounds like you might be experiencing a 'similar' problem to mine Simplebear. However try going to 'options' and making sure 'protect first frame' is checked, if it's not then do so and try uploading again. The first frame must contain the initial T stance for it to successfully upload to SL, if it doesn't then you end up with all sorts of wierd variations. If you don't have the T stance in frame 1 then open a new document copy the stance, go back to your file and paste it into frame 1. If it is checked..then it does sound like my problem..sort off. If it's a Mac you've got..then using one finger hold down whatever you press for a 'left click' and using other finger swivel it about on the pad..should work..you should move the point of view about. If it's a pc laptop then I'm not sure but I'd guess some variation on the above.

Two thoughts on this

1. Make sure that frame 2 and the last frame are identical so any loops transition properly.
2. The AVM format saves the animation in a "working" copy which only contains the frames that you actually created. When you "play" the animation in Qav using an AVM file, Qav will interpret on the fly and display the transitional frames for you. However, if you save the animation in BVH format, Qav will actually create the points for all those individual frames. So if you then try to edit a frame of your BVH file, you will be changing just the frame you're working on .. the next frame remains "as is" .. thus you have no transition and the jerkiness occurs.
Bottom line: Save in AVM format until the animation is completed and then save in BOTH AVM and BVH formats. Upload the BVH to Second Life and make sure it's good. If not, go back to Qav, load the AVM file and do some more tweeking. Lather, rinse, repeat, etc
