if you are a windows user, search your HD for sndrec32..exe

drag your sound onto it

play with the few options

save

If it's over 10 seconds you can't upload it. You can use Audacity (which is free) to edit the sound. To shorten the play time you can either select ten seconds out of the wav and save that to a new file or you can try raising the tempo which shortens the play time but causes the tempo to speed up.

In Windows go to Start - Programs - Accessories - Entertainment then the Sound Recorder.

Open the wav file and start playing it. Keep an eye on the amount of time that passes. When you reach 10 seconds, or less, click on the Edit menu and the select Delete After Current Position. Save the file under a new name to preserve the original.

that's where they hid the stupid link for it, thanks lol, I'd been making people search for it

if you click on the time bar, not on the slider it should move the slider bar exactly one second towards the direction you clicked, use the mouse scroll wheel to mover the slider 1/100th of a second for fine tuning, I think the arrow keys work for that as well

If your serious about sound then Audacity is certainly the better of the two options. Not only will it let you select the specific 10 sec from your audio file but allows a number of other useful audio editing features.

By the way in my experience SL doesn't like sound files that are exactly 10sec long. i tend to go for 9.999 sec and it seems quite happy with them.
