I just created a 30-second animations. 450 total frames, 15 frames-per-second.
I am unable to upload it. The error message is:
"Animation file is 30.0 seconds in length. Maximum animation length is 30.0."
So if the maximum length is 30.0, and the animation length is 30.0 seconds, don't we have a perfect match here? Or do I have to do somethign weird like make it a 29.99 second length animation? (And since the first frame doesn't count anyway, it's already really a 29.93 second animation anyway.)

It has to be under 30 seconds, not just at or over. Not to mention the first frame is counted, however odd that is.
Either retime the animation, manually fix it, or change the fps to 16.

In something a little related I made a sound file that was 10.0086 seconds long. I got a message that the file was too large and should be 10 seconds in length.

Thanks for the answer.
My guess was that Second Life was using the word "maximum" incorrectly. (From Merriman-Webster: Maximum- "the greatest quantity or value attainable or attained." In other words, if the maximum is 30.0 seconds, then 30.0 seconds is attainable.)
If the animation just has to be less than 30.0, I can retime frames 2-450 down to 2-449.
I wanted to confirm the issue though, before I spent all night doing this: Well, let me retime to 449, export, transfer, upload- no that didn't work and crashes my Second Life. Okay, let me reboot my computer and restart Second Life, then retime the animation to 448, export, transfer, upload- no, that didn't work and crashes my computer. Okay, let me reboot, restart, retime to 447 ...

Are you getting that weird SL "Shuts down, no warning whatsoever" crash too, AMity??
I was trying to upload an animation last night (new viewer), and while trying to preview it & make sure it looked right, SL just shut off.
The 2nd time I get a "MS Visual C++ Runtime Library" error about "pure virtual function call".

I got that crash several times while trying to upload the 30-second animation. When I'd give up and cancel out of it, Second Life would do the crash where it just disappears without warning. I haven't tried uploading animations since (I shifted gears to texturing I'm still on that right now), and I haven't had that crash since. What program are you using for your animations? I've done 30 second animations at 30 fps without a probelm in poser. When I tried doing any animation at 15 fps it won't load for me.

I use Poser 7. The animation was 450 frames at 15 fps. From: Ravanne Sullivan What program are you using for your animations? I've done 30 second animations at 30 fps without a probelm in poser. When I tried doing any animation at 15 fps it won't load for me.

My advice would be to retime it to 30 FPS and 900 frames. I've never had a problem uploading anything with these settings.
Then again, I'm still using Poser 4 ('cuz it's still the one I like best! *grin*), so that might be a factor. My business partner tried uploading from another version of Poser (Maybe 7, but I'm not 100% sure) and got a load of errors. She sent me the BVH and it was ALL jacked up and, once run through poser 4, played BACKWARDS in SL, even though it plays forwards in Poser...
Weirdness abounds, methinks.
