USING: Poser 5, SL Fem/Male avi template
Problem:
At frame 2, I use a pre made V3 pose ( ex sitting ) as a base for my animation, at frame 29 ( of 30 ) I for ex move the hip forward using either the dials or Translate/Pull cursor, effect : the upper body rotates 360 or get very messed up, this is just a sample and I think it has todo with the smooth spline calcs or somthing. I always have to go back and tweek the upper body frame by frame to prevent it from "running away" on me.
The above applies to most "advanced" poses/anims and body parts I am trying to make, if I make very simple and small movements it seems to work fine though.
Questions:
1. Should one use IK on the SL avi ? 2. Should one use "Use limits" on the SL avi ? 3. What is the trick of using pre made poses (V3/M3) in poser on the SL avi ? 4. Should one change the "Joint order" in the Joint Editor (YZX -> ZYX ) ? 5. Should one use Constant or Linear spline settings ? 6. Should one use Poser 2 figures rather then SL made Avi template ?
Many questions I know, but I am frustrated and can't seem to find either Poser nor SL tutorials for this on the net.
many thanks

key frames

Try making your first and second frames keyframed with the figured "zero'd". Also, before you export the bvh, set the animation to linear and save.
Thats what helped me. Now if I could find out if the frame rate in SL. it seems the frame rate we pick in poser is irrelevant.

I'm not sure if this will fix what you're seeing but you might want to copy frame 2 into frame 3 and make it constant.
I've always had some weirdness when frame 1 and frame 2 are very different. If you're using the normal spline, this happens because as far as Poser is concerned, you just moved a lot in a very short period of time and it tries to make it look like your body parts take a moment to slow down after the keyframe. While this works fairly well with slower movements, if you move very quickly, this can cause body parts to fling way out and do odd things before returning to their intended position.
1) IK is fine to use, I have animations that actually switch between using it, though its a lil weird sometimes.
2) "Use Limits" can be helpful, though it sometimes seems like it's range is a little too restricted.
4) I've never touched the joint order
5) I use constant and linear splines all the time.
6) I've always used the Poser 2 models, though I dont think there would be much difference with the ones provided by SL
