Hi All,
I have created what I thought was a simple dance animation, My figure is stnading in the same position but shaking her hips from side to side, however both shins appear to shake when playing (even worse in secondlife) I have tried everything I can think off, But can't for the life of me get it to stop shaking, Its only the shins, the rest is perfect.
I am using Poser 7
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I could be missing?
Kind Regards Nat

Hi Natalie - check that you have moved all the leg joints just a few degrees on Frame 2 - and this includes the feet, (ankles) as well as thigh and calf. Also make sure that you upload your animation with a higher priority than the default stand and walk animations. The only other thing that I can think of right now, is make sure you have taken off or turned off any other AO you are using, as these may have animations that can affect yours.
Take a look at the animation graph in Poser and look at the line for all the affected joints - check if the graph looks smooth without any sudden jumps. This may show where there is a problem

Ok I managed to fix the shaking of the shins, but now I have another problem, once uploaded to secondlife using priority 4, I play the animation and I sort of float and jump.
The anim itself looks perfect in poser.
Any more suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks Check the hip movement in Poser - because you are moving side to side, it should show some hip rotation, but you may not want to move left-right, but rather roll left - right instead. You could also go through the frames and "drop to floor" to check any vertical hip movement. If everything does look ok in Poser, it may also be an idea to re-save the Poser scene file and re-export to bvh - just in case the bvh file got corrupted. One last thing - I suggest you work using Linear interpolation rather than splinal (the brown colour on the animation palatte). Splinal can exaggerate some movements and cause unexpected results. You may have changed this already, but Poser defaults to Splinal and sometimes sets the interpolation that way when you didn't mean to.

Nat My pleasure Natalie - I'd hazzard a guess that you are getting more proficient with Poser with every problem you fix. If you really can't sort it - just IM me in world, or send me a PM on this forum and I'll let you know my email address so you can send me the file and I'll take a look at it.

The cause of your problem is related to the way that Second Life "optimizes" animations. Basically, Second Life sometimes ignores joint rotations from frame to frame for specific joints if it thinks that the joints didn't move "enough" from frame to frame.
The shaking problem you describe sounds like the one I have when trying to make animations where the feet are intended to stay planted on the ground, while the hips move.
Basically, what you are seeing is the hip doing it's rotations from frame to frame, but Second Life deciding to only move the thighs every other frame, for example.
Knowing how the problem occurs may help you figure out the best way to cope. All the things that Deira has recommended should help you cope with the problem, and if you search the forum for "optimization," you might find a few more.
