- AO stands for Animation Overrider. It is a device worn on your avatar (or on your screen) that contains scripts and animations, and replaces the default Second Life animations (how you move when you walk, run, stand, sit, etc) with custom animations on-the-fly when you begin walking, running, etc.

- Gestures are combinations of animations, sounds, and spoken text which can be played back together in a predetermined sequence, often by a pre-determined hot key. You can make those yourself without any special knowledge if you possess sounds and animations with the appropriate permissions to let you use them in that way.

- Scripts are bits of programming code which make everything in Second Life do the things that they do.

Also, you didn't ask but for extra clarity (since I often see new folks confuse the terms):

- Animations are items that make your avatar move in certain ways (walk, stand, sit, dance, kiss). You can click on them in your inventory to make them play back, but most often they are placed in an object along with a script written to start them when needed.

An AO is one example of that. A poseball is another. So is a piece of furniture that makes you sit in a different way from the norm. But an animation is not an AO, and an AO is not an animation; all the things I mentioned in the above paragraph use animations to get the desired effect, but need scripts to make them run automatically at the right time.

Hope that helps some :)

Thanks Anti,
That's helpful information. Next I need to figure out how to do that stuff.
