If there is anyone out there who can create a very good DJ animation (spinning, mixing, dancing with headphones, etc.) that is realistic and fun, I would greatly appreciate it and be willing to purchase it for $20 USD (potentially more, if I think it worthy).

Here is a baseline list of things I want to see:
1. Multiple animations with the same beginning and end key frame so as to make them endlessly loopable
2. Each individual animation is unique, a different action, but the same rhythm (if it requires rhythm... e.g. dancing and nodding, spinning but not mixing)
3. At least 5 individual animations, the more the better
4. HIGH-QUALITY!!! This is a must.
5. Be creative!
6. This needs to be something that isn't specific to one sex, e.g. androgynous
7. I NEED FULL PERMISSIONS! Mod / Copy / Transfer! I will not be selling the animations alone, but I will (after a month) sell a basic DJ getup (complete with mixers, etc.) which may include your animations.
8. If I sell any animated DJ booths, I WILL give you a 40% cut of all profits.

I will personally review each animation before purchase, and I will purchase once I've seen all the applicants.

I'm looking for quality and creativity!

Impress me!

And remember, you'll be paid at least $20 USD, more if I'm extremely impressed by your work.

Any takers??

Gosh, I hope you're taken up on this, Ghordon. Your proposal is so well-arranged too. :)

Sounds like a great gig. But you do realize that this would take a LOT of work!!!

You may want to find the best mean height and size as possible because it doesn't matter how perfect it is for one avi, the next with the slightest adjustments can send the hands through the turntables, "air turntabling", etc...

Also if you want continouus motion, head shaking, just "DJ kickin' it" type stuff it would encompass a lot of tweeking and a lot of keyframing. Much more then your average pose to pose type walk deal.

So am I reading this right, you want people to just start animating something this complex, submit it to you for review, and maybe you'll pay for it if you like it?

Not sure how well that will work, most animators, and of course not all I guess, 'cause I don't know everyone, usually like at least half up front before they even start to work on a project. This is a common problem with 3D animation in real life as well, "let me see what it would look like", well try to tell an Architect and a Construction company "Build me a house so I can see what it looks like and I "might" buy it."

You may want to consider some kind of contract agreement where there are provisions to deal with unsatisfactory work, untimeliness, etc...

Dancing and b'bopping are probably the hardest things to do in animation, at least to me :p , and a few other animators I know of, so it may not be feasable to expect someone to animate on a "might buy" basis.

But I'll keep an eye open for you and if in a few week, I'm currently a tad backlogged, if you still haven't found what you're looking for feel free to hit me up and we can see what we can get rollin' on the "Wheels of Steel"!!!!

Best of luck to you, I look forward to seeing an old school DJ Red Alert avi on the ones and twos!!!!

Turntablists, HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

How about this...

I'll pay $10 for every decent entry, and if I like yours best, I'll pay you $30 extra, meaning $40 total prize. (Potentially more if I like it a LOT!)

Of course I will not accept any cheap-shit animation as a DJ-Anim and offer you $10 USD for it, you've got to put SOME work into it...

But at least this way everyone gets paid for their work. I only pay, however, if you actually give me the animations. If you just show them off and then don't give, then I will not pay.

Also, I will not accept more than 15 people's applications, so if you want to enter please do so fast! I will not spend more than $200. (This means that 14 people will only make around $10 from the animation, but the one person that makes the BEST one will make anything from $40 to $60!)

You have your (revised) challenge!

I'm not in a great rush, but I WOULD like to say that I'd like the animations done by (hopefully) around February 1st, if not sooner. (Sooner would be good.)

Willing to try

Hi there... I just read this "challenge" and am willing to give it a shot (if it's still open).
I will be returning home in a couple of days from visiting family then I will have access to my own little corner of animator's heaven once again.

So let me know in game when I get back, or you can write me now and I can get it via e-mail to know if this is actually still an opportunity.

Thanks for your time. Hoping to hear from you soon.

This challenge is open until February 1, 2006.

If I recieve a very small number of applications, I will extend it one month.

But I want to see something good by February 1.

I can, at any time, cut off this competition.

And when I do...

get this...

WHEN I CUT OFF THE COMPETITION, WHOEVER WINS GETS THE REMAINDER OF THE $200 THAT WAS NOT SHELLED OUT TO THE REST OF THE APPLICANTS!

Thus if only 5 residents put their stuff in, four will get $10, and the winner will get $160 USD!!!

I want to see great animations!

And if you win, I'll also advertise your talents wherever I go. ^.^ Meaning I'll have signs referring business to you on my land, and when I travel if I hear about people needing anims I'll refer them to you. I'll also plug your name in the forums!

So the incentives just keep getting better.

Get to it!

(Remember I need multiple animations with the same start/end keyframe, so that thhey can be smoothly looped! And I would appreciate at least 5 different anims in the set.)

Interesting request, I've been wanting a decent "skratching" anim for quite some time now, but I have a feeling that one won't get done until I can... errr... aquire... poser.

I'm working on something like this out of world. I've been meaning to start pulling things in, I'll try and make it compatable. New glitches to learn, but all for the best. Let me know how it's going...

LOL, nice step up there Ghordon with the offer, pretty evident you ain't bullpoopin!

See you have a few takers, hellz yeah, hopefully, the more the scratchier!!!

Don't personally know any other animators here, but I'm sure we know who's in here. As for myself, I will be on this, basically one way or another :D I'm currently trying to stockpile some poses, fill a slightly more immediate need, at least for me.

I've got probably another 100 or so poses and anims to go, a few other side shots, pretty much through January, but this is definately an intermediate priority, I'm personally not into the pole danceing and all, as a RL animator I can say, at least for myself, dance is a capitol B with a major itch!!! Head bobbing isn't really the easiest either, people can easily see a tad off if your syncing to something.
(Though I did do an alien with an afro doing John Travolta's jig in Saturday Night Fever, move for move! :p )

Feel free to come by Pixel Dolls and see some of the stuff I've got to give you an idea of my capes and style.

Another big help, and possible push for other animators is if you have visual references, video or images. This helps get the feel going.

I'm sure you've put plenty of thought into this, you sound serious, and trust me, we animators like serious, especially cheese! So maybe a couple technical Q&A to help get your thread more informative so people can move on it.

You want masterpeice? Some things to think of.

Assuming you want a total custom, what kind of music will mainly be played? You'd think it wouldn't matter much but you wanna kinda stay in the range of "beats per minute" for the type of music. If you animate to say 120 bpm, and the music is say 80 or even 100, your dj will not be syncing up that well. That is of course if that's even a concern for you.

Do you have particular moves you wanna see? Here's where if you have video or even pictures it would help the animator get a "feel" of what your after.

DJ can = standing in the booth picken his nose

= scrathin up the ones and two, crossfading? typical old school Hip Hop turntablist
*** Get some video of DJ Q-bert and Mix Master Mike if you want some of the best turntabling, Roc Raida from The X-Ecutioners whos beat juggling and body tricks are off the muthabrotha chain!!!!!)

= ?rock n roll, smash the mic, chew on the record, bite a bat's head off?

Audio tracks would be good, should at least be able to use a 10 second beat loop, and if there's major breaks. But may not be that pertinant too you.

A list of specific animations:
basic scratch, two handed w/crossfader, mic check... that sorta thing.

See where we're going> ;)

Want a "masterpeice", give us the "masterplan" :D

I may be able to push this up a bit on scheduling, we'll see, but as always the best of luck!!!

You want a master plan?

Here's some additional information.

MUSIC TYPE: Generally techno/electroclash/industrial/electronic

BPM: Just go with 120. If the beat changes, I'm not going to be super picky. The DJ doesn't have to dance ALL the time if you don't wanna make him, so variance in beat is okay.

THINGS I WANT TO SEE: Anything original. I want some scratching, crossfading, turntabling, dancing, adjusting dials, doin' little DJ dances, switching records, coughing because the DJ smokes too much (j/k)... Make the DJ seem human, with a flair of style. I'm not saying I want all of these, and I'm not saying these are all I'm looking for. Get creative, do something new, be original! I want to see life in this DJ, not some cheap low-end mechanical robot DJ.

In general, I'm leaving this pretty open. The above three things are the basic guidelines, but even THEY can be broken if you think you've got something good. Don't be afraid to break my rules. Just show me something good!

Send me an IM in-world and I'll drop you a line right back.

Let's see something new!

Heh, I just made a still pose of a DJ for someone who IMd me requesting one -- and then I realized that I hadn't written down the name of the requester. It wasn't you, was it?

Anyway, I might be interested too, but I'm too backed up to begin any work for the next week or so.
