Animation software for Intel Mac ?

Does anyone know of any animation software that runs on an Intel Mac ? Qvanimator is suppose to but it doesn't. I am not against purchasing Poser or Maya if they work but would prefer something a little less bank intensive. Thanks.

I second that - Qavimator won't run on an Intel Mac (yet?). It seems like overkill to pay for Poser just to make some really simple little animations. And I'm having a few problems with Avmotion as well, that are probably really basic - but there's no info available or support.
Has anyone used Cheetah? It's cheaper than Poser etc, and designed for the mac from the ground up. Any users out there?
I know Qavimator would run on Bootcamp or using Parallells desktop, but you would need to earn a lot of Lindens to pay for a legit copy of Windows!

Assuming you look for an older version of Poser (ie. 5 not 6) you can pick it up for pretty cheap.

Does it work on the Intel Mac natively or do you have to use Rosetta? Any performance issues ? Speed ? Reliability? Any feedback at all would be appreciated.

This page lists it for order:
http://store.purplus.net/poser5mac.html

Doesn't refer to chipset unfortunately. Still looking for info on that.

How hard would it be to compile Qavimator as a universal binary? I would be happy to do it, but I don't have the first clue where to start... I've only ever opened Xcode, said "what" and then closed it again.

Or maybe even compile it to run under X11.

Bah, I'm even having problems with qavimator on my old PPC G4 now - that's not good, considering I'm currently working on a very animation-heavy product.

I can't seem to install svn-client-ssl via Fink either.

Well luckily I can run Qavimator on my PC which is good since I am in the middle of a new line of anims. I just would really prefer to run it on the Mac... Poser 7 is suppose to be universal but since I have no idea when it is coming out I am not going to hold my breath or my product line.

Purplus is a great resource for all sorts of things at awesome prizes, and all legit. (I had to point it out didn't I) - a lot of 'outdated' software that's just one release behind the latest, but at great discount, sometimes they liquidate stuff at cost or close to that, liek when they moved the last few boxes of Carrara Studio 3 at under $30 . www.thebest3d.com/carrara

I think they also show Poser there at thebest3d.com and other tools like Quidam.

Poser 5 was on promo as a freebie recently, vbut if you missed it I think efrontier stioll offers it for $20 as a download edition. Go through thebest3d or purplus for the boxed version. Note that you'll have to choose between mac version and PC version, and the mac is not a MacIntel version, since it dates back a few years.

If you have a MacIntel I recommend Carrara 5.1 where they have a MacIntel build patch. It's also with DAZ now, which of course brings me to DAZ studio, a free tool. The BVH export is an optional module that you pay for if you want or need it.

Perhaps the best way to get to Carrara 5 is as a member on the DAZ platinum club, or else try getting evrsion 4 standard or Pro from thebest3d or purplus and then upgrade if you like it.

I was wondering if this thread was meant for 3D animation tools only, and Blender should be in that mix too by-the-way, or should we also mention some 2D animation tools? Think Painter and AfterEffects in a single sub-$100 tool? Think my favorite,Project Dogwaffle, and I've seen a few things in SL that appear done with it. I've seen a stained glass piece in a house that came from the creator's website's screensaver/desktop wallpaper page at thebest3d.com/dogwaffle

I'm very new to SL but saw some animations of trees swaying in the wind. These were done by moving the few polygons they contain, and the leaves on the trees were static and not rustling, not really alive.

If you want to make trees that really look like the wind is blowing tghrough them, or if you want hair that breathes, or waves on the beach that bubble and crash, then you'll want not just a static image on that billboard polygon, I think you'll want to create an image sequence, and PD is awesome for that. It has Lua scripting to create all sorts of things that don't come with it yet, so if you're the math genious, get creative. Look for example for that tall grass swaying in the wind, somewhere in www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/tuts where there's tons of tutorials.

In my mind, SL is pretty much a game engine, so I wasn't surprised the other day to hear that PD is coming to a major indie game engine developer. I don't know which one yet, (he wouldn't tell me), but it seems like something coming soon.

Anyone use other game engines, like Ogre, 3Dgamestudio, 3impact, unreal or torque?

Since you're doing animations for SL, I'm not sure it matters. Running emulated using Rosetta will still be plenty fast for the lightweight animation jobs SL needs. You might start running into performance issues if you're trying to do a Pixar-quality movie, but then why are you doing that on an old version of a bargain-priced 3D app?

I've used both Torque and 3D Gamestudio before, turned away from both in favor of Blitz3D. Why do you ask?

wondering how deep the game engine goes, how realistic it will get, how feature-rich it is by comparison. Is Blitz3D tops and great too? something-basic, forgot the name,

which of all you like the best?

Not only is this the wrong thread for that question, this isn't even the right forum, or right website.
