I'm not sure I've ever seen a natural avatar, so what exactly do you mean by an artificial one?

Perhaps he means animating a set of prims to look like an avatar?

I think I once saw someone dressed as a tree. Would that be a natural avatar?

Well it would be a green one - very environmental. :D

Maybe he means a non-human avatar?

The post on Resident Answers about shapes had me asking myself the same thing... How does one make the odd shapes and wear them as avies?

Artificial avatars sometimes use FD&C Blue Nos. 1 and 2, FD&C Green No. 3, FD&C Red Nos. 3 and 40, and preservatives.

Since natural avatars use 16.7 millon RGB colors and seem to last just as long without preservatives, I highly recommend them.

For most of them you need a complete animation override - e.g., for Tiny avatars the arms, legs and body are folded into a ball. The avatar shape sliders are made as small as they can go and the ao does the rest. The prim attachments make the visible avatar body.

I think a similar principle applies to all other non-human shape avatars - the shape you see is that of the prim attachments and the ao is keeping the SL avatar shape folded up inside the prim body.

Ok I should have predicted the confusion, I see my origional post has attracted some amusing comments :-)

I meant to say how do i create an avatar which is not me, ie a dummy avatar, like a shop window dummy which I can program to say usefull things to passerbys???

I see people put a picture of their avatars on a prim with the area around the avatar transparent so it's just a flat 2D version of themselves. Those kind of creep me out when I see them out of the corner of my eye. It's like seeing an avatar who isn't showing in the mini-map. But you can basically put a script inside that prim to greet people.

I bought something similar to what you're describing quite a while back for $40L, (and had to dig through my inventory as it was so long ago, I couldn't remember the name, the shop I got it or the creator's name. I found it.

It's yellow, standing in the corner on the first floor of the Renara.com store and has several scripts I would guess you configure to have the bot say what you'd want it to say when people click on it.
