I need to animate a walk and my big problem is how do make teh animation so that it will continue forward? Does that make any sence? Basically once i make the animation, how can i set it up so i can make this work in SL?

Also, should i make the avatar walk forward? Or walk in place?

Thanks for any advice

get the default animations here:

and look at the walk, basicly you want one full cycle walking in place.

THank you so much.. that helps a lot.

Now that I made a walk.. how do I use it?

I can import the animation.. but how to i set it up that the animation will start when I start walking, and the animation to stop when i stop moving?

There is an attachment that you wear called an animation overrider or AO for short. It basically does exactly what you describe. It will also let you replace your other default animations such as sitting or standing. There are several AOs available for free. These can be found in areas that cater to new people like NCI or the Shelter.
